Does anybody know if Louisa John-Krol is good? I remember seeing her name on ecto. Oh and a belated thanks to Glenn Macdonald..Your reviews are wonderful. You even got me to read about Savage Garden whom i detest. That's a sign of a good writer. Of course I enjoyed the reviews of Veda, Emm Gryner and Loreena even more. Don't blame the industry in general. It all comes down to colors: specifically, the color of the laser in the player, and the color of the blank CD-R media. Some DVD players have only one laser, while others have 2 different lasers (one for reading DVDs and the other for Audio CDs). My Sony DVD player plays CD-R disks just fine... - -jeff ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 20 Dec 1999 18:25:11 -0500 From: dave Subject: Jaqui McShee, GEG Bill mentioned Jaqui McShee's Pentangle's Passe Avant, funny.. I was just looking at this CD this morning while picking out music to take to work, and thought about posting about it. I pretty much agree with all that Bill said about it.. Also today, I received 2 new Grey Eye Glances CDs, part of the merchandise they were selling to raise money to buy back the rights to their songs from UMG. A couple of real nice albums of mostly previously unreleased material from the last 8 years. Finally I got to hear 'The Pirate Song', and I can see why people who've heard them do it at their live shows like it so much.. Always a great day when I get new GEG to listen to :) - -- +-----------------------------------------------+ + dave + + Sideshow Bob's House of Wax and Waffles + + Female vocalists, Christian, and Polish music + + http://www.magpage.com/~sspan/ + +-----------------------------------------------+ + irc.dal.net #tori #ecto + +-----------------------------------------------+ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 20 Dec 1999 19:04:04 -0500 From: Michael Curry Subject: More Kristeen Young news A couple of upcoming Kristeen Young shows in NYC: Saturday, January 8th, 10pm the Batcave @ Downtime, 251 W. 30th St., 212-695-3373 Monday, January 24th, 11pm Alchemy @ CB's Gallery, 313 Bowery St., 212-677-0455 Mike ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 20 Dec 1999 19:05:50 -0500 From: "Foghorn J Fornorn" Subject: GEG I too received my Grey Eye Glances stuff from "the bailout". The 2 unreleased material CDs, plus the double live CD. Wow. Just good old fashioned rock my socks off WOW! I am glad that during the long wait for this material, I did get to see the band live. On Dec 10th at about 5 pm I picked up my copy of the Danbury News Times Weekend section, and see GEG mentioned in a column on the front page of the section. I read it, and discover they are playing in Pawling NY that very night. I, with little else and certainly nothing better to do, decided to check it out. It was a wonderful show. My only complaint would have been it was not long enough. A couple numbers into the set Dwayne cracked that they would be doing "numbers from all 16 of our albums, including the early days when we were known as Jefferson Airplane". That got a good laugh, and Brett and Paul started to try to play a rough version of White Rabbit, with Dwayne and Eric trying to goad Jen into singing it. Alas, she did not. I think I'm going to have to write a comment in to their website - work on it, it would be a great live tune for them. The band intro part of Halfway Back was amazing too, as each person took the band into various cover tune snippets, including Edgar Winter's Frankenstein, REM's The End of the World, the disco staple Stayin Alive (really), and the clincher - Jennifer covering Robert Plant for Led Zep's Rock and Roll. Just a verse, then snapping back into Halfway. Very tightly done, and gads of fun. This "bailout" live CD is a much longer show (about 2:10 overall), and apparently in Philadelphia, as the crowd knows them well, singing along to the opener. It's a very well recorded live CD, and edited fairly judiciously, leaving a fair amount of banter in. In case its not ridiculously evident, GEG has rapidly become one of my favorite bands, and I'd like to thank the people who talked them up here on ecto earlier this year and piquing my interest in them. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 20 Dec 1999 20:00:04 -0500 From: Bill Adler Subject: Re: GEG I'll echo those wows. My Grey Eye Glances CDs arrived today, too. I've only had a chance to listen to half of their 1992-1998 CD, and it is wonderful. (As a nice touch, each CD is individually numbered.) I heard them perform last summer. What a lovely evening, resting on the grass, listening to GEG play as the sun set. - --Bill n.p.
