Back in the summer of '98 before I came up here to Berklee in boston, I heard WXPN in Philly play Ceili Rain as well as playing some of their stuff at the radio station where I volunteered. I snagged a promo copy of the disc and listened to part of it and was mostly put off by the Christian leanings of the lyrics...the music was kind of catchy folk-pop rock with irish elements thrown in. They weren't pure traditional to my ears, and they weren't new-age irish lite. it's kinda weird to see names of people i know second hand popping up in discussions here. Gary Burton is the vice pres of Berklee and the Paul Winter Consort features my cello teacher as one of its members. this is a pretty cool school. paul "back to homework" kim ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 9 Dec 1999 08:44:41 -0600 From: "Paul Huesman" Subject: Re: ecto-digest V5 #404 KATE NEWS Paul Huesman@BSSBNOTES 12/09/99 08:44 AM Here's the latest on Kate (" Or so the Germans would have us believe.") from http://www.clubi.ie/twomey/katenews.htm >>>>November 22nd: HomeGround fanzine's latest issue not only celebrates 20 years since The Tour Of Life, but confirms some solid news regarding progress on Kate's album. "Kate began writing and demoing songs for a new album earlier this year. She has had her recording studio serviced and upgraded and recording is expected to begin before Christmas. Kate is happy and full of energy and our former wild guess that there may be a new album by Autumn 2000 still remains a distinct possibility." As revealed earlier on this web-site the fanzine have already confirmed that Kate has recorded a song for the Disney film Dinosaur. "Disney sought out Kate to provide the soundtrack song that would be at the emotional turning point of the film. It appears, however, that Kate has had some problem agreeing the lyrics of the song with the Disney production team. Kate has however created the perfect song for the point in the film, just like in She's Having a Baby and Disney have the problem of taking or leaving it!"<<<< In other news, she's been calling me every night, asking me out, but the site neglected to mention that for some reason. Thanks, John, for writing. This caused me to take the album out again, and I liked it quite a bit. Especially "Persephone" and "The Ashram Song". Some of the harder-edged songs have yet to grow on me, but the lesser-so ones are good. Still needs to be listened to a lot more, but I think it really is pretty good. I'd be interested to know what her new one is like. JoAnn John D. wrote: >> LAUREN HOFFMAN-- MEGIDDA > >_Megiddo_, yes! I'm so glad you bought this album, >JoAnn! Picture it ("If you want, then want alot, It's the only way to be sure"): Happy's voice and instrumentations starting at the International Dateline and spreading westward as the earth spins, lighting up the globe sorta like the Genesis Machine in Star Trek. :-P Or sorta like that we're-all-connected feeling that happened when we were watching Live Aid. Either image is good. :-) Anyway, "Waking Up" seems a very good song, to me, for "first footing", in a global sense. :-) fleur - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Joanna M. Thanks Jeff, that's a nice positive way of looking at it. I guess if we have to wait, it's nice to have the Magnolia soundtrack to help us out. BTW, anyone in the LA area might be interested in knowing the Aimee has another run of weekly shows booked at the Largo. Three Tuesdays starting the 14th. That's almost enought to get me to fly down there. (From SF.) If anyone see's one, I'd love a review . Or Not. Certain cuts written by Mr McCandless moved me in ways that I didn't wish to be moved. Tapes I made of Oregon skipped some of these and I listened to them a lot. She'd like for folks to be able to pay with credit cards, and I'm trying to find a third party service that will process the payments for her. Has anyone out there in ectoland ever successfully used such a service? I've gotten tons of spams with subject: lines like, "ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS - MAKE $$$!" but I certainly wouldn't do business with anyone who'd send me unsolicited commercial e-mail! BTW, yesterday I visited a financial site which wanted to download some sort of Micro$oft stock-ticker app for me. A new screen popped up in the center of my Internet Explorer asking me if I would consent to download the app to my hard drive, and underneath the "OK" and "cancel" buttons there was a little checkbox next to the phrase, "Always trust content from Microsoft."
