This latest blurb from LoLoRec elaborates more on this year's rendering of PL. Two years ago, Caryn Lin, an accomplished electric violinist, was featured as part of the group. This year, more emphasis will be focused on Hansford Rowe, bassist who recently released his own CD featuring his own vocals with Happy on one track doing the backing vocals. That was a superb cut which was sung in very authentic French...I think to cut was entitled Rowler. Getting back to Project Lo...my guess is that HR will perform 4 or 5 solo numbers, including the two from PL's Black Canvass, and do some backing vocal work along with keyboards. Worth mentioning is The Wire in New Cumberland, PA just outside Harrisburg. This is a cozy venue in a quaint town with an Irish Pub around the corner. Worth the trip if you're anywhere in the area. Cut and paste from LoLoRec: Guitarist Bon Lozaga seamlessly blends acoustic and electronic elements in Project Lo. With bassist Hansford Rowe, (both are veterans of GONG), and drummer Vic Stevens they create a mesmerizing miasma of both ambient atmospheres and tight tunes. The group also features the mysterious and captivating cult vocalist Happy Rhodes. They will be performing tunes from the critically acclaimed Project Lo CDs, from Hansford's new solo release and from Happy's repertoire. "Easily the most absorbing album in this month's crop??? Lozaga's BLACK CANVAS demands full attention" JAZZTIMES PROJECT LO November 11 Chicago, IL - Martyrs Club 3855 N. Lincoln Ave (773) 404 -9494 12 Detroit, MI (Mt. Last night's performance was a four-star show -- one of the best shows I've been to in a long time. If you live within 50 miles of Washington, DC, I highly recommend seeing SixMileBridge at Flannigan's (301-986-1007) in Bethesda, Maryland. Tonight is their last night in the Washington area. SixMileBridge is a Celtic group originally from Houston, Texas. The perform with tremendous energy, passion and musical talent. Maggie Drennon's vocals are especially enthralling, and she plays a mean fiddle and base guitar, too. What SixMileBridge is, is: great vocals, brilliant music, and musicians who make no bones about loving what they do. SixMileBridge performs what would best be described as Celtic-rock, with a heavy traditional emphasis. But there's nothing traditional about SixMileBridge -- they put a great deal of creativity and flair into their music. While many of their songs are contemporary-Celtic, there's considerable range in their music. Some slow songs, like Wild Mountain, from their latest CD, "No Reason," have a traditional flavor. Others, such as "It Was 'a For Our Rightfu' King," from the Across the Water CD, display their traditional origins, but have a strong pop-rock element. While it's hard to think the fiddle, mandolin, and tin whistle as "rock" instruments, you should see what SixMileBridge can do with them (along with guitar, drums, pipes -- more than a dozen different instruments in all.) SixMileBridge sings about love, war, and magic. "The Witch of the Westmerelands" almost makes you feel as if you're in Ireland in medieval times. SixMileBridge plays regularly at Connolly's in New York. There's more information about the band at www.sixmilebridge.com, including their touring schedule. - --Bill Bill Adler www.adlerbooks.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 21 Oct 1999 10:11:27 -0400 (EDT) From: dmw Subject: Re: hunh. I haven't listened to her latest CD for a while cause I burned out on it pretty fast and lent it to a friend who still has it. But, man, hearing that song made me happy. It's not a great song, but she has a beautiful voice and it made me think of when I saw her in concert a few years ago when she was just starting to get big and she put on a really fun show with alot of songs that aren't on "Pieces of You". Yeah, she's cheesy, yeah she's gotten kind of a celebrity chip on her shoulder lately, yeah her upcoming Christmas album sounds like it could be a nightmare but damnit I like Jewel! I like choclate cake and I like Jewel, so sue me. I even like some her poems, i think they're sweet. But it is lame that she gets a second collection and plenty of good poets get nothing. - -nick ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 22 Oct 1999 00:58:31 EDT From: NNadelS@aol.com Subject: car commercial music music in car commercials is getting good. the susan mckweon ad, and i just saw one with a hooverphonic song. - -nick ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V5 #351 **************************
