The Fogster wrote: > The original specifications provided for the possibility of a > tight spiral that could result in 80+ minutes of playback. I believe this is in error. The Redbook's rules max a disk's length at 74 minutes (not counting the leadin or leadout). You have to break the rules to get passed that. Those rules are broken commonly enough - even on some commercial CDs - that it's not a problem, although I believe this is why none of the "first tier" CDR manufacturers make 80 blanks. The reason this is possible is because the player follows the pitch of the spiral on the disk. Once again, as Fog mentioned this is the same as an LP. The CD player does not have any hard requirements regarding the pitch of the spiral or the closeness of the pits along the spiral - just that they are far enough apart that it can read them individually. Both of these parameters need to be fudged just a little to get 80 minutes. If someone was going to "sell" CDs to make up Ectofest's losses then it starts to get "official" and someone is going to put their foot down. Just tell me where to send my donation check and who to make it out to. Oh, and as long as we are talking about Ectofest merchandise, please let me take the opportunity to publicly "dib" an Ectofest poster. Drew n.p. The packaging is slightly different, without the holes in the booklet, no transparent tray (as Marcel already mentioned some time ago), and there's one track more than on the US version. (sorry if this is old news, I wasn't subscribed during this summer) The track is called "How It Should Be". Most of you probably know this song from the '96 Tin Angel shows. On the CD it's a studio recording, rather catchy, and IMHO the song with the most "hit" potential, even more than Roy. I wonder why they left it off the US version of the CD. ciao, Rolf ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 17 Sep 1999 13:14:37 -0700 (PDT) From: Damon des Jumeaux Subject: Re: First mention of ECTOFEST ? -- not quite. and veda. > Stumbled across during a web search. Atmospheric, classy, french, seventies, instrumentals with some female vocals ( you may have heard "sexy boy" or "all i need" on the felicity soundtrack). Belle and Sebastian-Tigermilk: reissue of their first album. if you haven't discovered this lyrical, melodic, poppy band check this out. Sophie Hawkins-Timbre: I like this one quite a bit. read that it's release was held up cause she wouldn't take the banjo out of "lose your way" like the record label wanted. "lose your way" and no connection should be big hits if theirs any justice.
