Hey, that's exactly how I created my database with Access. I nearly have the same fields, one table for the records and one for the artists (name, information, origin). I don't enter the song titles, only the number of tracks. Twice a year I'm printing out a report of the database sorted by artists and year of release, formatted as a small booklet. I didn't think about making the database available through the net, because I don't have a homepage. Maybe sometime. The jazz-y vocal harmonies, occasionally sung in a top-of-the-lungs kind of way, fancy guitar work and prominent drums make it an intense and engaging album. At first listen a couple songs seemed to have rather abrubt changes of style and/or rhythm in the middle of them; something that needs a bit getting used to. In the softer songs the voice of Danielle Capoferri (lead singer) resembles the one of Sarah McLachlan. A fine example of this can be found at mp3.com (songtitle: "don't know"). It's much easier to not buy books or music when you don't go into music or bookstores. :) But last night I went out to get Tori's new single, a treat for myself for being so good lately, and bought 5 cd's. Reviews to follow: "Bliss" At first listen (I wasn't one of those lucky enough to sample online or on radio stations) I thought it was kind of too pop/rock, but I like it better on subsequent listens. I think it goes in the same vein as the Choirgirl songs, and I'm looking forward to the new album immensely. The two live songs, "Hey Jupiter" and "Upside Down" are also great. And she looks beautiful on the cover to boot. "A Perfect Day Elise" PJ Harvey Great album. Great single. APDE has some additional production on it. "Instrumental #3" is too short, but "The Bay" is worth the price of the album by itself. _Estrella_ by Lycia This is trance-y music. It reminds me a bit of Cocteau Twins, but the vocals are intelligible, and the music is heavier, denser. Interesting. Mahmoud Cissongo _Kora Revolution_ I think that's his name, but I'm not sure. The kora is a lute-like African instrument (according to the back of the cd) and this album is beautiful. Very happy. Haven't listened to it at home yet; previewed it in store. And Rickie Lee Jones _Pirates_. Haven't listened to it yet, but loving "skeletons," "living it up" and another track (forget which one) from _Naked Songs_, I'm looking forward to it. They've put a whole album worth of mp3's on their own site because they can't afford to do something more with it: http://www.shellyzraven.com Really worth a listen, and hopefully some day they'll be able to release a CD. *hugs* - -- Yngve ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 26 Aug 1999 00:18:55 -0400 From: neal copperman Subject: ectofest hotel rooms I just made new reservations at the Ethan Allan Inn for the ectofest weekend. Many thanks to Joe Zitt for pointing out that on-line reservations were dramatically cheaper than phoned in orders. A AAA discount took my room down to $115 on the phone, and they were offering the same room at $87.50 on-line. So if anyone else has made reservations for more than that, you might want to check out the web site and save yourself some money (http://www.ethanalleninn.com/). Thanks Joe! Still willing to take on a roomate (or 4). neal np: nature film - SCRAWL ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V5 #287 **************************
