Yup, I was at the Ann Arbor gig. Great show. Although Aimee was noticably shaken from the accident, she was very charming, was a great storyteller, and sang excellent versions of most of her best songs. But, alas, the new CD was not for sale. In fact, Aimee didn't have any merchandise there for sale, new or old. She did mention that they were still struggling to get it back from the "big bad evil record company" and it would be available at her web site, http://www.aimeemann.com. - --Mark - -- Mark Miazga e-mail: miazgama@pilot.msu.edu 302 Mason Hall, MSU East Lansing, MI 48825 (517) 355-2106 http://www.msu.edu/~miazgama Voicemail: (517) 355-9380 Program Coordinator of The Common Grounds Coffeehouse. Apparently (some of) Veda's cd's have released in Europe, and so are available over here. So far I've seen "Spine" and "Here's a picture" in the better cd-stores in The Hague and Utrecht, both in German releases with a different package from the Canadian releases (both are digipacks). This is a *great* song. Probably my favorite Jewel composition. I have a version of it on "Jewel Rocks the Paradise", back when I was a loyal EDA. The song really rocks, the lyrics are excellent, and she turns in a great performance of it. Gosh, I wish I would have known about 'Storytellers' before it aired (although I may not have watched it, thinking most of it would be composed of the crap on 'Spirit'). Here's hoping that "Love Me Just Leave Me Alone" gets on the next album, along with "Carnivore" and "Sometimes It Be That Way". - --Mark - -- Mark Miazga e-mail: miazgama@pilot.msu.edu 302 Mason Hall, MSU East Lansing, MI 48825 (517) 355-2106 http://www.msu.edu/~miazgama Voicemail: (517) 355-9380 Program Coordinator of The Common Grounds Coffeehouse. The descriptions sounded vaguely interesting, but I remain slightly suspicious because it seems that they got signed to Virgin without actually ever playing a note or at least without ever playing a live gig. Well, I had a chance to see them again the other day (in front of 5 people) and I really think this duo is something special. Although they seemed a bit discouraged by the turnout to that little-publicized show, I reassured them that once upon a time I had seen Jewel and Sixpence None the Richer both perform to similar-sized audiences and I've heard their pretty popular now. I'm not supposed to say too much about this but I also snuck on to the set of "Buffy... " last week to see Splendid perform for the season premiere of the show. So fans of the show have two things to look forward to. [The band played "Charge" on a previous episode. Rachel, what do you think of "You and Me" as a "Felicity"/"Dawson's Creek" song? I know you've heard the album...] In August they're heading to Australia to promote their new album, "Have You Got A Name For It," (which has no firm US release date and Mammoth is kind of up in the air about marketing them). Their Australian fans are obviously pretty excited about Angie's return to her homeland. They'll be making several talk show appearances and performing at various fests. Since Splendid are pretty much on their own as far as promotion, it's important to get the underground cyber community involved in their campaign. They'll have their website (www.splendidtheband.com) up in the coming weeks and they're going to have a lot of events to interact with fans. They just got a computer and are just beginning to realize the potential of promotion through the Internet. The band will be back in Los Angeles in late August so expect some shows in September. Anyway, if you get a chance, spread the word about the band at the various forums you may be subscribed to. Also, I just found out that there's a Splendid discussion group on onelist so I'll be posting any news there as well. === FWD ENDS === ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 03 Aug 1999 00:28:50 -0500 From: Mark Lowry Subject: Imogen Heap on Baywatch Hey, Seriously, while in NYC and flipping through channels, happened on Baywatch and the only reason I stopped is because I recognized the song being played during a car chase scene.
