Well, I've done quite a few on tape, and a couple on CD. Back when I first joined ecto, my EWS was so bad that I started to make sampler tapes of all the new artists I'd bought, one song by each artist, in alphabetical order. I made three of them, I had plans for at least 3 more. I did two tapes with just stuff from the 6 "goddesses." One is the piano goddesses (Tori, KaTe, Veda), the other the guitar goddesses (Jane, Happy, Sarah). On CD, I have the Ecto Christmas CD, and the new Jane Siberry double CD non-album tracks compilation. And then there's Ectopia. Wow, what a disc! (Fog, thanks for the thank you in the liner!) I seem to remember that Jill :D used to make a bunch of mixes--are you still out there Jill, or have you vanished to the land of the fumblers? I know that Love-Hounds was going to do a disc of KaTe fans covering KaTe, and that they have been known to do tape trees in the past--they did so with Kate's commercials for Fruitopia and with the Cathy Demos. There's also the I Wanna Be Kate disc, which is a commercial release, but could count as a type of ecto compilation. The Indigo Girls fanclub has done a similar compilation of covers, but of the IG. Prime CD puts out a sampler every year with songs from their artists, which in the past have included several ectophilic artists including Susan McKeown and Annie Gallup. And the Putumayo collections could be vaguely considered to be ectophilic... - --Kay np: Ectopia!!! nr: A book that my great uncle had done on my family's genealogy. ___________________________________________________________________ Get the Internet just the way you want it. I have this particular personal infinity for glowsticks that goes way back, and to mix that element with the hapster and see her groove sooo much to it really floated my boat. i think vickie and i are kindred spirits with glowsticks, as i'm usually the person that shows up with bundles of them to events with friends out here. - - my favorite songs that sent infinite chills through me and led me to tears were Warpaint, Save Our Souls, Ashes to Ashes, Look for the Child, Winter, and Tragic. Especially Tragic... it's at the top of my list now of favorite songs. Did anyone escape the horror after the show of the greek picinic? I was trying to avoid it with no avail. I was routed through North philly (read the WRONG NEIGHBORHOOD). In fact, "wrong century" came to mind and I was singing to myself "get me outta here, show me to my homeland...get me outta here..." it was definitely not the icing on the cake after such a wonderful show. also, the chat with vickie, neal, chris and others outside after the show was special, even if it was a lament on happy's career not moving as fast as we would all like it too. it would behoove Samson to put a bunch of ectophiles in a room together to brainstorm ideas on how to help really launch happy's well deserved fame. i feel like there's this pregnant pause and we are all the midwives. and lastly, the answer too the fashion quiz question... happy's toenails matched her keyboard...they were both metallic silver...tres chic, no? best regards to all, timm ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 Jul 1999 10:42:32 -0500 From: "Mike Mendelson" Subject: donna adler/c.wheeler in chicago; ectofest qs Heads up for those chicago residents -- tomorrow night (thu 7/29) at schubas donna adler will be opening for cheryl wheeler. I have never heard cheryl live, but she has been described as the funnier woman on the 'new' folk scene, and is supposed to be hilarious in concert. As for Donna, well, she has a sweet voice and a CD, and she has been playing alot around here lately, though this could be her biggest break yet. See the ecto guide for a review I wrote a few years back. Anyways, for $10 (advance tix at www.schubas.com), you really can't lose with these two. Also, I have an ectofest question: meth (I think) wrote that there was a shuttle for $65 from laguardia to danbury. I could not find any shuttle for less than $120 one-way. Also, is this per person or fixed price per ride? Could someone send me more specific info about this? Debi and I will be arriving friday at around 3pm and making our way to danbury. Is anyone else flying in around that time? We would consider renting a car if we could find a couple of others to split some of the cost -- renting cars in NY on labor day is about $100/day. If anyone has any other creative ideas about how to get to danbury from LAG in a timely fashion friday afternoon, please spill. Thanks! - -mjm _______________________ Michael J. The limo goes from LAG to the hilton in danbury (that's the sole drop point). It leaves every hour on the half hour. Total time for the trip is 1.5 hours, subject to traffic. $39 one-way, $74 round-trip. This is slightly higher than the $65 meth suggested but still much less than the $120 fare charged by other such services. We were able to get rock-bottom airfares to LAG on united (I'm not sure why but it was at most $200 from chicago and somewhat more from LA). So the limo looks to be worth it. Still would be interested to hear if anyone has any other transit ideas, but I would guess this is as good as it will get. - -mjm _______________________ Michael J. Neshama has had two albums (_Soul_ and _Ha Neshana Shel Shlomo_) released via Zimrani Publishing in Canada, and SISU Music Entertainment (#7025, 18 West 27th Street, 10th Floor, New York City, New York 10001 USA) handles both of them in the States I remember going with Diane to hear Ms. Carlebach and her band at Town Hall in NYC, and I believe it was around Purim (March 1997?) when we did. The sound was a bit loud (to me), but no one seemed to care. If it was ever possible to "mosh" at a concert of Judaic rock, this was the place and time for it. Very infectious. As for Donna, >well, she has a sweet voice and a CD, and she has been playing alot around >here lately, though this could be her biggest break yet. See the ecto >guide for a review I wrote a few years back. Anyways, for $10 (advance tix >at www.schubas.com), you really can't lose with these two. > >_______________________ >Michael J. Guess the charge is slightly different to Danbury than New Haven. It is a bit farther away. >We were able to get rock-bottom airfares to LAG on united (I'm not sure why >but it was at most $200 from chicago and somewhat more from LA). I think that is about as good as you'll get. Another one to try would be Prime Time Shuttle and Red Dot, but from my experience traveling on business, CT Limo is the cheapest, most reliable way to go. If anyone else has info to share as you make your travel plans, please do! I guess I'll have to get used to it. Cheer up - perhaps Bon's apparent willingness to travel will rub off on Happy and she'll see that touring is a wonderful thing and that there's a world outside the Northeast. And perhaps KaTe will actually release another album before her 50th birthday... ;) neal copperman writes: > Happy had a ton of effects with > her, but they didn't seem to be used too much. I believe she finally gave up on them rather than mess with the impractical workarounds she would have had to go through to use them. Most everything else I'd wanted to say has been said but for emphasis... After having just seen Melissa Ferrick fill up the Tin Angel stage the night before with just herself and a guitar (well, actually at one point there were 2 (identical) guitars - "it's nice to be sponsored", said she), had you told me there'd be 4 people AND a drum kit, a keyboard, 3 guitars, a chest-high pile of amps and effects equipment, and enough wire to circle the building 3 times on the very same stage the following night, I'd have laughed at you. Instead of being told, though, I saw it with my own eyes so rather than laugh, I could only shake my head in disbelief. And only one very minor bout with feedback during the shows to my recollection. "Many Squirrels are Bored Tonight". Heheheh. Good to put faces to some names (and see a couple of familiar ones again as well) even if it was in such rushed fashion that not all of them stuck. Without a doubt well worth the trip. bob npimh - Title track to "Many Squirrels are Bored Tonight, the new Johnny Appleseed tribute album: "Put your bag down for a while And have a bite of your harvesting Many squirrels are bored tonight, Because your seeding went everywhere." ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V5 #252 **************************
