I am accessing my account on my lunch hour and I was feeling lost because I meant to bring my Tori cds to work to listen to. I downloaded some of the clips and am feeling much better. However, I have a question now. Many people have mentioned, on ecto, about the cd, Y Kant Tori Read. The website says "And there is this one album Tori Amos has pretty much distanced herself from: Y KANT TORI READ, released 1988 It has been withdrawn from the market and is today only available as a bootleg. " Is this true? and why? and how can I get a copy of it? Your help is appreciated. The song is Tori on voice and piano and (I'm assuming) Steve Caton on guitar. He's also the one playing guitar on the live version from the hey Jupiter EP... it was also released on the More Pink double-disc set released with Under the Pink, it's an 11-track album with all kinds of b-sides from Little Earthquakes *and* Under the Pink. From my approximation, the reason the song got "kicked off at the last minute in mastering" is because the song is about how Tori's relationship with Eric Rosse was going sour, and Eric (who co-produced the album with Tori) disliked the idea of it being on the main album and being heard by billions of folks... that's my guess, at least. And I think the "a little dust never stopped me none" thing has to do with Tori singing with Robert Plant on the Led Zeppelin tribute album... rumor has it they, um, bumped nasties, so to speak... so that's what I'm guessing. Just a bit of John-interp for y'all who probably aren't interested. ;D John === ain't no way i lost this war and ain't no way you won _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? YKTR was Tori's first commercial release. It was rather heavily influenced by "stylists" who seemed to decide that she could be the next Joan Jett. On the album, Tori is your typical big-haired soft-rock chick. I actually think the album has got some good points, but it's very far removed from the Tori that most of us know. It can be picked up from the occasional record shop or maybe on auction sites like eBay. As a collector's piece it's interesting but I wouldn't go out of my way to pick it up for it's musical value! As others have mentioned, Caton plays acoustic guitar on it too. At the time, it was noteworthy for the fact that it was the only song she'd done which prominently featured that instrument. (Hmmm - come to think of it, that may still be true!) "Honey" is on the (very) short list of final nominees for the honor of my favorite song by anyone, ever. I'm getting chills just typing about it. Mercury Records is no more. It has been folded into a maze of corporate divisions called The Universal Music Group. We had a good relationship with Mercury but feel this new mega-label environment is not the best place for GEG music. We are currently speaking with other labels. Labels that will be more interested in and supportive of our concerns; national touring, radio airplay, distribution, and most importantly, artistic control of our music. In the meantime, the question arises: "What will happen to Eventide and Painted Pictures?" The Universal Music Group retains ownership and all rights in perpetuity to the CDs and the songs they contain. This means that these albums will no longer be available, and Universal will prevent us from distributing or re-recording any of our songs from these two records. For example, this past spring we recorded many of our most popular songs for a "live" album. Sad to say, we can't release this album unless we are able to re-acquire the rights to our songs from The Universal Music Group. Due to the exorbitant price set by record companies, few artists are able to purchase the rights to their own songs. Fortunately, there is hope. We have been able to negotiate Universal's initial asking price down to a somewhat manageable figure. Unfortunately, we don't quite have the funds to both "buy back our music" and keep our day to day operation going. So, we've been brainstormingŠcake sales, car washes, lemonade stands, running a sports book out of our basement. ObviouslyŠWE NEED YOUR HELP!!! We have put together some very special items to offer you in exchange for your assistance in our attempt to rescue Eventide, Painted Pictures, and most importantly, our songs. One of the items we are offering is a double CD set featuring "raw feed" performances from the spring concert recordings intended for future commercial release. Complete with restarts, glitches, and all the joking and fun that normally accompanies a GEG show, each CD set will be signed, dated, and numbered. In addition, limited quantities of lifetime passes to GEG shows, advance (pre-manufactured) copies of all future CDs, T-shirts, and a separate CD containing previously unreleased material will be available. When the last one is sold, that's it! Soon you will be receiving an e-mail listing the items and their availability. Thank you for your continued support of our music, GEG - --------------50977AC5C7317E9F1F3A0F24-- ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 07 Jul 1999 23:13:01 -0400 From: meredith Subject: sarah slean update?
