I noticed that they have a track on a new Madonna Tribute album--which also features songs done by other 80's bands such as Gene Loves Jezebel, Information SOciety and others. I also noticed that they're opening for The Go-Gos on their summer tour. I saw Berlin on the Count Three and Pray tour and it was one of the most moving performances I've seen. It was early on in the tour, and Terri Nunn was crying at the end, hugging everyone she could, completely overwhelmed by the audience response. Her voice sounded better than it ever had. Just wondering if anyone knew anything more about htem, or had seen them live recently. Jeff Hanson n.p. Sarah Brightman - Fly n.r. I've been poking around at http://www.myshopnow.com/ , an online shopping place which seems to have impossible music values. I've seen people on other lists say that they've spoken to them, and received orders from them, and they appear to be legit. I'm ordering stuff from them now, but I'm in Caveat Emptor mode. Anyway, among the massive amount of CDs thathey claim to have in stock at 4.95 apiece are most of Happy's work, including Rhodes I & II. I've run into a couple of places online that happily take my order for CDs listed as "in stock", charge my credit card, then place an order to their top-line distributor for the CDs. :-/ After one of these jokers sent an Email, weeks later, informing me that they couldn't fulfill their order from the supplier, I replied something to the effect of "Duh -- it's out of print. That's why I ordered it from you, because you listed it as IN STOCK!" I had to order Heather Nova's "The First Recording" from 2 different places, both of whom claimed it as in stock, in order to get 1 copy. Credit due to the place who delivered it (a large German online retailer - -- can't find the receipt right now) -- they got it to me in a month. Including cheap overseas shipping, it cost me less than I would have paid over here. I'm glad I sent Kevin a check when they were running out of HR CDs; it would suck to not have the complete Happy collection, ever... - -- | Greg Dunn | And all you touch and all you see | | gregdunn@indy.net | Is all your life will ever be. | | The Sultan of Slack(tm) | Pink Floyd | | http://www.indy.net/~gregdunn/ | | ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 8 Jun 1999 21:32:06 -0700 From: Neile Graham Subject: Kym Brown Art recently sent me a few obscure Canadian discs, one of which is Kym Brown's _Pygmalion_. Wow. Weird and wonderful sounds, a clear, pretty voice like Sarah McLachlan's but blended with distortions and all kinds of fun noise, including theramin. This is wonderful, truly wonderful. She's from Vancouver and will be appearing at the Railway Club June 15 and on June 17 will be doing an inhouse promo appearance at HMV. If I had time for a trip to Vancouver I'd be there like a shot. She does have a webpage (which has a few design problems--stuff may appear _way_ on the right side of your screen, so I didn't even know it was there at first): http://www.kymbrown.com She reminds me a bit of Holly McNarland in the toughness of how she sings but how overall the songs are still attractive and not dark/depressing/ugly like some tough songs can be. Yes. I think it will be out this fall. I recently saw them play some 80s retro show, sandwiched between John Waite and Rick Springfield (eek -- don't ask). They played about four songs from the forthcoming album, and I really liked them all. It's still that techno synthesized sound, but updated for the 90s, not so new-wavey. It was a short set. The other songs they did were "Masquerade," "No More Words," "Metro" and ended with "Sex (I'm a....)". Yeah! No "Take My Breath Away." They were good live. Terri looked and sounded fabulous.
