It reminds me very much of the last Moloko album "I'm not a doctor". The voice and the singing is very much the same, the breakbeats and the bass lines are very similar. Both are excellent albums. Jonatha Brooke's live album is waiting for me at home. We had to pay outrageous DM 46 ($25 incl. taxes and customs). But I think that it's worth the money. The new Afro Celt Sound System album also is good. Not very deep music but nice floating trancey rhythms with african percussion and celtic solo instruments. I totally missed this when it was released. It's sort of a pop theme album--akin to her album "Dive". Has much less a classical flair than Time To Say Goodbye or Eden. However, I thought it would be of interest to some that she covers a song by Stina Nordenstam--Murder in Mairyland Park. I haven't heard Stina's original version, but I imagine it to be fairly similar (perhaps minus the wankerish guitar solo). Her vocals sound quite similar to Stina's. Anyway, it's a pretty interesting album. If you're into Sarah Brightman at all, it's worth checking out. It's got more bite than Dive did, but still tends to run to the overproduced sound you'd expect--still, it's quite catchy. So far I like it better than Eden-- mainly because I could have done without the Titanic theme song (My Heart Will Go On--dat least it's done in Italian). I hope this helps. - --Bill n.p. April March, Chrominance Decoder INFO: The Clannad album was produced by John Curran at Eamonn Andrews Studios. The date I have on my LP is June 25, 1973. The musicians are: Maire Brennan -- Harp, Vocals Paul Brenna -- Flute, Bongos, Guitar, Vocals Cairan Brennan -- Double Bass, Guitar, Piano, Vovals Noel Duggan - Lead Guitar, Vocals Padraig Duggan -- Guitar, Mandola, Vocals Also appearing are John Wadham (drums) and Grainne McMonagle (tin whistle.) Clannad, the album, is one of their most traditional albums, and I believe, their first. It's lively and engrossing. Some of the songs are about love, others about the sea, emigration, pollution and war (the Battle of Clontarf, 1014, in specific.) All in all, an excellent interpretation of traditional Irish music. Most of the songs are in Gaelic. Clannad 2 was released in 1974. (Cost me 3.99 pounds in Dublin in 1979.) The production credits are in Gaelic, and minus the marks they are: Leiriu: Donal Lunny Dearadh: Bill Bolger Notai: Fachtna O'Kelly Grianghraf: Dominic Ledwidge-O'Reilly Taifeadadh: Eamonn Andrews Studio Same for the music credits -- they're in Gaelic. But, best I can tell, they're the same as for Clannad, the album. As with Clannad, most of the songs on Clannad 2 are in Gaelic. Yet even if you don't understand Gaelic, which I don't, the lyrics and music penetrate you mind is some inexplicable way, letting you feel what the songs are about. Sirius was released in 1987. The Three Tribesmen perform in the song White Fool. I'm not sure of their exact role, though. The basic linup for the musicians is: Maire Brenna -- vocals Russ Kunkel -- drums Pete Vettese - keyboards Robbie Blunt - guitar Jai Winding - keyboards Phillip Donnelly - electric guitar Who plays what varies somewhat by song. Far less traditional than their earlier albums, and more pop sounding, Sirius still retains an Irish feel. I think the song, "Something to Believe In" is one of Clannad's best. Legend was produced by Tony Clarke. The regular band members are there, too, of course: Ciaran Brennan, Pol Brennan, Noel Duggan, Padraig Duggan. At 01:36 AM 5/17/99 -0400, you wrote: >Hi. (yes, sometimes i can judge a cd by its cover. i started to listen to jane siberry because i saw the _maria_ cover, and i thought to myself "i'm going to love this album." and i do. i love jane's music.) - -sixpence none the richer again, i was really intrigued by the new album cover. and apparently the single "kiss me" (i haven't heard it) is on the dawson's creek soundtrack - -speaking of tv show soundtracks, when did shawn colvins "nothin on me" get to be the theme song of suddenly susan? kudos for shawn. that is one of the better (i was going to say "few good," but that seemed a bit harsh. it's not a bit album, but i was expecting more from ms. colvin. she redeemed herself quite nicely with _holiday songs and lullabies_ though.) i hate that show though. - -they might be giants. what do people know about them? they have a lot of albums, and i've only heard john henry. i like most of it, but there are some songs i absolutely hate. detest. perhaps abhor. any recommended albums? - -what's with the new trend of releasing numerous singles for the same song with non-lp b-sides, so that a fan has to collect all the (expensive) singles in order to get all the songs? maybe this isn't new. tori's been doing it for years, but even she used to make ep's with 4 or 5 songs. i was browsing in borders today. going through the singles section, i saw 2 singles for sheryl crow's "my favorite mistake." both had 2 non-lp b-sides. and the singles were imports, priced $11.99 each. worse, perhaps, was the cranberries' "promises" singles. these were also imports, priced $11.99 each, with 2 non-lp b-sides each. but the b-sides on one were live versions of "linger" and some other song (something about john lennon) and the other had live versions of "dreams" and promises. The sleeve on the first single had a teddy bear. on the second single, the left side of the teddy bear was on fire, his eye was scorched. really disturbing. i guess they're doing what bjork did with the covers for one of the homogenic singles (i don't remember which song it was) where there's a progression when you line up all the pictures together. i think she changes from being bald on the first one to having some sort of weird helmet (animal figure?) on by the last one. anyway, i don't buy bjork singles because they're always $11.99 imports with 2 songs. i do however enjoy the "venus as a boy" single which has remixes and other songs, which i got for $5.99 (new too!) and the "bachelorette" single, which was expensive, but has that wonderful song with harpsichord. i guess this "new" trend is all about money (*sigh* isn't everything?) and bilking loyal fans for as much as they're worth. and all the good singles seem to be imports these days. shawn colvin's "nothin on me" single with live versions of "tennessee," "shotgun down the avalanche," and another wonderful song i-don't-remember-which-one-anymore was an import. vonda shepard had an import single for "searchin' my soul" (the ally mcbeal theme song). it had a cover and another song she co-wrote with someone. i didn't recognize either of the names, so they're not from the ally mcbeal soundtrack, _it's good eve_, or _by 7:30_. the hype on the packaging seemed to imply that the songs were used in ally mcbeal episodes. i guess that's it.
