Hi! Nick introduced: >hi, i'm nick, i just joined the list. i see some postings from D.C. >I'm a new yorker now but have dc ties. DCer's email me! New Yorkers >too! Welcome to ecto! I live in New Haven, but I'm in NYC enough that I might as well live there. :) Hope to meet you at a show soon! It's always good to find more local ectophiles around. >here's a cool band i just discovered that i'm sure some of you know: >Too Cynical To Cry. I've never heard of them, but I'll try to check them out sometime. >Can I just say how bad I feel for 10,000 Maniacs. I mean, they were at >their peak, had their biggest hit with "These are Days", toured with >REM, had a big unplugged album with a big single, them Natalie left >and they disspeared. They're on an independent label now, I guess >Geffen dropped them. And they're still good! I agree with you up until that last statement. They used to be my favorite band, but they've just lost the spark. I had such high hopes for them when I heard that John Lombardo had come back and Mary Ramsey had joined up - John and Mary's two CDs are favorites of mine. But now, they're just bland and boring. :( I would've been at the Bottom Line show if I hadn't decided to give up on them when I saw them up at the Iron Horse in March and almost fell asleep. Sigh. >there songs now are more >radio-friendly than in the Natalie days. That pretty much sums up why I'm no longer interested, I guess. :) Nick, are you familiar with the local artists Rachael Sage and Mila Drumke? How about Susan McKeown? If not, you should be! :) +==========================================================================+ | Meredith Tarr meth@smoe.org | | New Haven, CT USA http://www.smoe.org/~meth | +==========================================================================+ | "things are more beautiful when they're obscure" -- veda hille | | *** TRAJECTORY, the Veda Hille mailing list: *** | | *** http://www.smoe.org/meth/trajectory.html *** | +==========================================================================+ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 Apr 1999 21:56:46 -0500 From: There is no spoon Subject: The rantings of a lunatic Peter Gabriel fan (I know there are a lot of Peter Gabriel fans here, and figure that those people would want to know about this) http://www.inergy.com/crary/ Read it and fear for Peter's safety. It was my pleasure! The ProgFest, now called the International Progressive Music Festival, is a wonderful music event. The ProgFest has always featured unique acts that are obviously in the progressive music arena. However, the festival has also showcased bands that I would categorize as progressive with strong Ectophilic leanings such as Anglagard (mentioned in the Ectophiles' Guide), Sinkadus, Minimum Vital, White Willow and Halloween. All of these bands feature outstanding female vocalists. This year's festival is no exception. Par Lindh (Magdalena Hagberg), Lana Lane, Azigza (Cyoakha) and Gong (Gilli Smyth) all feature female vocalists. They are all excellent vocalists and they each have their own completely unique style. This festival will not be for everyone here on Ecto that is for sure. I feel that you will enjoy this festival if you appreciate prog rock along with Ectophilic music. I know that some of you here on Ecto do. A big plus about this year's event for me, and many other previous ProgFest attendees, is that it will be held in San Francisco at the beautiful Palace of Fine Arts. The previous three ProgFests were held at an old funky theatre in a seedy part of downtown Los Angeles. I have attended all but the first ProgFest and have seen some incomparable performances. Anyway... here's the URL for you to check it for yourself: http://www.pangeamusic.com/ DISCLAIMER: In case you are wondering, I am in no way associated with the promoters of this event. They are good people though. I just wanted to share the info with all of you. :-) If anyone here from Ecto does decide to attend the festival, please let me know. I would love to meet you!
