No thanks. But I opened the box > just to see what they sent, and discovered a CD. I went wild with anticipation when I saw the names. I listened to it and heard syrupy 101 Strings arrangements, the kind of stuff that normal people my age enjoy, people who stopped listening to new things in their thirties. I filed the CD. I think Shawn, Joni, Paula et al should sue Don Henley and James Earl Jones for defamation. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Apr 1999 21:59:03 -0400 From: Richard Subject: Re: Gerrard, Germano OK, I like them both too and I also find L Gerrard pretentious and L Germano morose, but the difference is that I get the feeling that Gerrard is earnest in her pretensions while Germano is winking at us with a little grin on the corners of her mouth. I play Germano for the wry little witticisms hidden in her lyrics and arrangements and Gerrard when I want to scare the shit out of my wife and daughter and cats. ;-) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Apr 1999 23:20:19 -0400 From: dave Subject: another case of ews Picked up 4 CDs today.. several of which may be of ecto interest.. One is the Hank Dogs "bareback". I had heard one song, "18 Dogs" on the radio once, and bought the CD based on that... glad I did, it's one of the best folk CDs I've heard in ages.. produced by Joe Boyd, it's almost like stepping back in time 25 years. Musically it reminds me a bit of Pentangle, but with deeper vocals. Also got Kelly Willis "What I Deserve" which has been the topic of late on the Maria McKee list. Like it a lot, I understand she pretty much told MCA to step off and made the album she wanted to make. Good move.. still got that great voice, but the songs seem stronger than her earlier work. Also the new Caedmon's Call "40 Acres" (surprise ) which has a nice cover of Shawn Colvin's "Climb On (a back that's strong)". I'd heard them do this live and it sounded really familiar but it didn't register in my brain what it was at the time.. And last, that old Ecto favorite, The Corrs.. "Talk On Corners special edition". I'm not a big fan of remixes.. what they do to Tori songs should be a capital offense.. but the ones on here aren't too bad. They've left off a few songs from the origional, and added one or two from their other album, and put on different artwork. that is all. - -- +-----------------------------------------------+ + dave + + Visit Sideshow Bob's House of Wax and Waffles + + Female vocalists, Christian, and Polish music + + -=-=- and the fabulous Kasia Kowalska -=-=- + + http://magpage.com/~sspan/ + +-----------------------------------------------+ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Apr 1999 21:29:35 -0600 (MDT) From: Susan Kay Anderson Subject: Bay Area Ectophiles Hello all! I have posted a few times over the past five years, but generally I am a lurker, and have enjoyed every single post I have read, and I have fallen in love with hundreds of cds I have purchased because of *your* recommendations. Thank you so much! :) Here is my request: This June, I turn the big 3-0 (gulp), and to celebrate this somewhat frightening crossroad in my life, I am taking a trip to San Francisco to play and have fun. I would like to know of any kewl clubs, bars, cd shops...anything that is interesting, eclectic, soulful, or ectophillic in nature. Feel free to respond to me privately at this address. Many thanks!!
