Just checked and it's still listed on their website. Might be the cheapest place to get this especially as a "free" selection if just joining. Better to join online since you'll have access to their whole catalog instead of just what's listed on magazine inserts: Canada and US: http://www.bmgmusicservice.com Dalbello also has a website: http://www.dalbello.com/home.html if interested in more info. Don't think "Whore" sold very well and is already deleted? In fact, the All-Music Guide (normally a great resource) lists "Whomanfoursays" from 1984 as her latest release: http://www.allmusic.com/cg/x.dll?p=amg&sql=B16812 I'm from her hometown of Toronto and remember her from the late 70's when she performed as Lisa Dal Bello. Buried in a box of old tapes, I'm 90% sure I have an FM broadcast of one of her shows from this (teenaged) period. Totally different style of course. I'll have to dig this out and give it a spin. Anyone interested in this? One was talked about for _Whore_ but as far as I know it never happened. I've certainly never seen a copy of either _She_ or _Whore_ here in the U.S., though I've occasionally found copies of _Whomanfoursays_. >I'm from her hometown of Toronto and remember her from the late 70's when >she performed as Lisa Dal Bello. Anyone interested in this? Oh, cool. I have a vinyl copy of one of her Lisa Dal Bello album--the one with her hit, "Pretty Girls" on it--very funky dancey pop. I wasn't paying much attention to that kind of music when it came out but when I got the album years later because of my interest in her Dalbello releases I was very surprised at how many of the songs on the album I recognized. She must have gotten a LOT of airplay for me to hear her. I grew up in Victoria, B.C. and was at the time an undergrad and working and didn't have much radio listening time and certainly wasn't interested much in pop. (Living in Victoria I wasn't aware that there was music going on that I might have been interested in had I known about it!) One of the stupid things I did that I've kicked myself about for years is that when we lived in Ontario in 1989 Dalbello did a live show at the Diamond Lounge that appeared on, I think CityTV. We taped it at the time but were short on videotapes and poor so we decided we wouldn't watch it THAT much and we taped over it!!! I've mourned the loss many times since We did keep our copy of the Jane Siberry special that played around the same time, though, and have bad copies of the videos for Dalbello's "Gonna Get Close to You" and "Let's Tango". Don't know why we were smart enough to keep those but I'm glad we did. - --Neile - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Neile Graham ...... http://www.sff.net/people/neile ....... neile@sff.net Les Semaines: A Weekly Journal . http://www.sff.net/people/neile/semaines The Ectophiles' Guide to Good Music ....... http://www.smoe.org/ectoguide ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 9 Apr 1999 13:35:30 -0400 (EDT) From: Michael Colford Subject: Re: Dalbello/Lisa Dal Bello As the other huge Dalbello fan on the list, I though I should speak up! I bought all of Dalbello's CD's from Canadian records stores, and I know none of her recent albums have been available in the States. As Neile mentioned, "Whomanfoursays" was released in the States way back when, but long since deleted. Something no one has mentioned yet is that Dalbello has written for some artists in the recent past. Her work and her vocals appear on Heart's Desire Walks On album, and Patti Labelle's Jewel album. I'd love to get a new Dalbello album someday, but I'm worried that won't happen. I also have a Juno Awards on tape where Glass Tiger (of all people) performed the song "Watching Worlds Crumble" with Dalbello! It's pretty wild. Anyway, high recommendations for Dalbello from me, if you're looking for some ferociously, beautiful and fierce music! She's what Alanis Morisette was trying to be on Jagged Little Pill. Michael n.p. Yeah, it was pretty amazing. Though I think that the cover she did of "Come Undone" may have been my favorite of her covers. Yikes I can't even imagine what her version of "Ripples" might be like. The Patti album in question is actually called "Gems," but you were on the right track. :) Lest any fellow Dalbello fan consider running out and buy this, don't feel compelled unless you like Patti (which I do). No recognizable Dalbello trademarks there...it's pure, slick pop/R&B. Dalbello also did a *blazing* vocal on a song called "Start Today" on Alex Lifeson's solo album, Victor (1996). She does a dead-on, probably intentional impression of Alex's Rush bandmate Geddy Lee at one point. Not an easy feat by any stretch of the imagination. In my opinion, this is one of those "worth the price of the whole album" kind of songs. She's simply amazing on it. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 9 Apr 1999 17:56:00 -0700 From: Neile Graham Subject: Jane's releases (was RE: Happy Covers) Wayne wrote: >While I'm here: Does anyone else find it strange that Jane Siberry has all >these projects going on but since starting Sheeba she's not really released >any "new" material? It is really excellent and not just for the two songs that Happy sings on, which as Lisa stated are fantastic. Bon Lozaga is a truly gifted guitarist. His playing (Project Lo is an outlet for his acoustic playing) is brilliant. I agree with Meth that Caryn Lin is amazing. Also on this recording is Hansford Rowe, a very inventive and melodic bass player. The music on this recording is a mix of progressive rock, jazz fusion and world.
