I haven't seen them around lately, so I think they're pretty busy at it. Quick tour through the discography. They have three full-length albums on Simple Machines: =Tales of Brave Ida=, 1994; =I Know About You=, 1996; and =Ten Small Paces=, 1997. The latter is mostly "lo-fi" recordings, mostly at Warren DeFever's house. They have two more recent EPs, =Losing True= on Bingo, 1998; and the Ida/Retsin EP on Muss My Hair Records, also 1998. (Muss My Hair is the small label "run"--if that's the word--by Matthew Schickele, brother of Ida bassist Karla Schickele; the siblings played in noisier local band Beekeeper until it broke up a few months ago.) If you can find a copy of the Ida/Beekeeper split single (7" vinyl) on Simple Machines, grab it. It has one of the best songs by each band, not available elsewhere in those recordings. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Apr 1999 07:54:58 EDT From: Riphug@aol.com Subject: Fwd: SIBERRY Pipeline 11 * Bunny is called 'Bunny' - --part1_261150d5.243df312_boundary Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit For all of you Jane Siberry fans.... (It is partially closed now while under construction.) Besides, I seem to be so busy that perhaps I won't have time to complete the website redesign for quite awhile. Perhaps I will keep releasing things through the cracks of the half-lidded website in order to get the next project going. Perhaps this will go on for a long time. Perhaps someday I'll finally have time to really fix it up nicely. Please I'll ask to please put the piano over there. Perhaps I'll hire a band. Perhaps the website 'look' will finally be perfect, just perfect. And then I will have the grand re-opening. Years from now. And perhaps it will be very quiet. If a piece of mail matches under multiple rules I will get duplicates. The solution is to make the final step in your rules for a given folder the one that says "stop processing rules". It's the new album by Oh Susanna (aka Suzie Ungerlieder) titled "Johnstown" on Stella Records in Canada. I know we have many Veda Hille & Kinnie Starr fans who saw Suzie on the trio's Scrappy Bitches Tour last year. Although Oh Susanna was mentioned the least of the three on Ecto, she's the one that interested me the most, personally. I really enjoy her dark, blues infuenced writing & I particularly like her voice. I've been following her developement for several years now & I'm extremely impressed with this new album. For those few already familiar with her, this new album consists of much of the same material on her indie cassette from last year titled "A Shot Of Oh Susanna". The big difference is that all those (& additional songs) are now more developed & feature augmented arrangements of most of the songs, where that cassette release was primarily solo acoustic. Also of interest to many of you, is that Veda Hille is prominent as the keyboard player on many of these tracks. This CD is likely impossible to find here in the states, but I suspect its available easily in Canada. I recall Steve Ito recently mentioning that Oh Susanna is currently on tour supporting Sarah Slean. So you may be able to pick up "Johnstown" at the gigs. Also, if any of you "live tape trading" Ectophiles record Sarah Slean gigs, PLEASE record Oh Susanna's sets for me! Would love to trade for a few more live recordings of her. I wasn't a fan of hers either, until I went to see Sarah Slean perform and Sarah and Suzie performed as well (the SarahO'Sarah tour! :), and she was actually really good...I was impressed.:) Definitely worth checking out, I think. - -jessica http://adam.nettfriends.com/Jess ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Apr 1999 21:07:10 -0700 (PDT) From: Damon des Jumeaux Subject: good ol' irc... hi there! some of you may remember me... ;) seriously, it's been far too long... i have about 10MB of ecto messages sitting here that haven't been touched since about when i got my new job back in october. aside from a few little bits and pieces i've done for the guide, the ecto content of my life has been alarmingly low for about six months now. i think it has something to do with 9-5 and two hours of commuting. :P anyway, i'm writing because the other day, to facilitate chatting with a few friends when we all seemed to be using icq more heavily than it ought to be used, i set up my own little irc server. it's the dalnet ircd, and i also set up services, which is a dalnet services-type package (nickserv, chanserv, etc) just for fun. and after setting it up, i suddenly thought hey, it's something that some people on ecto *might* just enjoy. i mean, it's irc, but without all the #!!!!!!sex channels, without characters like good ol' METALLICA, and so on... anyway, i figure it may or may not be interesting to none, some or all of you out there. feel free to use it if you like. irc old-timers at least should get a kick out of it. i'll tell you, for me it's turning out to be a *huge* nostalgia rush. i probably won't get to hang around too much myself, given work and commuting and all the rest, but you never know, i could get sucked back in... in any case, if you're curious feel free to point your rusty irc clients at irc.jumeaux.bc.ca, port 6667. - -damon Damon Harper des Jumeaux _/>_ "It would help if we could damon@jumeaux.bc.ca __\ /__ somehow raise the average Les Jums: jumeaux@jumeaux.bc.ca \ / level of clue in the universe http://www.jumeaux.bc.ca/damon/ |/||\| by about 437%" - me ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V5 #126 **************************
