I did mention "Tapping" before, right?  I think so...
I'm actually really glad that song is a b-side, rather
than being on the whole new album, because that way,
it's rather highlighted.  I might not have let it sink
into my skull as much had it not been only one of three
songs to process, and Good LORD, am I glad that my
b-side fascination has let me fall in total love with
that song.  Corin is just elemental in her own way
during that one part, "sit down you make nervous oh
yeah" in the first verse... *drool*
     Umm... I was going to talk about something else...
uh... OH!  Lori Carson... she's pretty Ecto.  Do we
know about her on here?  I think we do, right?  I have
her "newest" album, _Everything i touch runs wild_,
I've had it for a long time, and I was listening to it
tonight and I couldn't remember whether or not we'd
talked about her, or if we had, what was said.  She's
supposed to have a new album before too long, right? 
Somebody?  Anybody?
     And while we're kind of on the Lori Carson
subject, how about the Golden Palominos?  Have any of
y'all heard their latest album "dead inside", which is
basically just awesome apocalyptic spoken-word by the
lovely Nicole Blackman over Anton Fier (the producer
and sort of figurehead of the GP) making lots of cool
post-industrial electronic beats and soundscapes and
death-rattles... it's absolutely fascinating.  That one
album has influenced me a lot in both the way I write
poetry and look at programming and spoken word and even
rap tracks.  It inspired me to rap, in a roundabout
way, and now rap is a major part of my, like,
repertoire as a performer.  Woohoo.  ANYHOW, so if
y'all know about Lori or Nicole or GP in general, tell
me, and we'll start a fun thread! :D

Oh, and I might be getting a new email address too...
this Yahoo account is filling up a bit, and I'm
worried, I don't like deleting emails, so I might be
posting with a different emailing address sometimes...
I need to clean this account out and save all of these
letters... hard copies and all that... but anyhow, if I
do change my email addy, I'll let y'all know.

Gosh, I love Lori Carson.  I only have _EITRW_, but it's a great piece
of work.  Very moody... very sitting-alone-in-the-dark kind of sound.  A
beautiful voice, and I really enjoy the romantic desperation of the
lyrics.  Gosh, I haven't listened to her in a really long time.  Also
saw her at Lilith Fair a couple of years ago, and she was phenomenol.  A
quick check at her label, Restless Records, (restlessrecords.com), says
that the new CD comes out in August.  I've never listened to Golden
Palaminos, though.

ONCE BLUE

hmm...

i remember discussion about them when their album ONCE BLUE hit the stands back
in 95?  i picked it up in the $5 bargain bin because they were compared to
EVERYTHING BUT THE GIRL (early jazz pop incarnation, not the later dance
rebirthed band).

truthfully, i think the folk tinged pop tag is probably more apt than a more
jazz pop tag. they fall into that nebulous catalog of ear candy for me. when i
picked it up, i though it was pleasant enough to enjoy and listen to, even put a
couple of songs on different various mix tapes. but i haven't listened to the CD
in years. it has become part of that graveyard ectobland section (along with
people like CAROLINE LAVELLE whose cd SPIRIT i liked a lot, but rarely if ever
listen to now) that seems to be growing ever larger, as my musical tastes
fluctuate and evolve.

i still run across them in the bargain bins every now and again. i think i just
saw the CD recently (in the past couple of months) and since i don't think there
is much demand for them, i am sure it is still there. if anyone wants, i can
check it out and pick one up for them. just email me direct.

np. BETH ORTON's CENTRAL RESERVATION. why aren't more people raving about this
CD on ecto? or did i miss it in my absence. i have to catch up on my digests....

nr. TAKING LIVES by MICHAEL PYE. the plot seems a bit derivative of TALENTED MR.
RIPLEY, but it seems to have a good sense of character development. but what the
hell do i know, i haven't read THE TALENTED MR. RIPLEY. it is just sitting on my
shelf, waiting for me to get around to it. i gotta read it before the movie
comes out though, because i hate reading books post-movie hype.

John's comments about the Golden Palominos' Dead Inside release reminded me 
of when I sampled that disc at Borders (at least I think it was that 
disc...it was GP anyway). The people around me must have wondered what the 
hell I was listening to. I was on the spoken word track (no recollection of 
the title) when you hear a woman's thoughts. The bizarre part is that she has 
been abducted by a man. She has no idea what his intentions are and the 
thoughts she reveals are very close to what one would imagine thinking about 
while going through this. God only knows what my face revealed while 
listening to this song, as I became completely immersed in it. This sort of 
thing normally gives me the flying heebie jeebies, and this cut was no 
exception. It was stark, but so stunning that I couldn't help continuing 
listening through the end of the cut, the details of which I will not relate. 
All I know is that if art is judged by the emotions it evokes in its 
audience, this is art of the highest form. <<shudder>>

np...the silence of my house in my little Kansas town after flying in from 
NYC last night.

I thought it was the perfect April Fools prank.  It was harmless 
and it worked!  Sure it got my hopes up for a few minutes, but
since I was at work I didn't go rushing to my Cd player, and 
then Charley tested the theory for us and I didn't even have to 
be personally disappointed.  (Man, but wouldn't it be awesome 
to hear Happy to a rendition of Kate's "And Dream of Sheep?")

Here's another who thought "Great joke!"

But my thought process was more like, "Yeah, right" followed by "It's
april first" and finally, "Yeah, and he's acknowledging it's an april
fools joke with that wink."

Surely I'm not the only one who wasn't taken it at all?

Now I have to wonder if the "All Apologies" subject is a reference to the
hidden song on Nirvana's _Nevermind_...it must be.
