Hey, has anyone heard of Kate Rusby? I heard a song called Sir Eglamore on the DMX at work, which is probably the first time something worth listening to has been played there. It's from an album called Hourglass. The song has a fast Celtic feel to it, but I don't know if it would musically be classified a a reel or a jig or what...whichever one's in 2 or 4 instead of 3. Anybody have any opinions about her? It's a really catchy song and I want to know if it's worth hunting down the album (not that I'm not going to anyway). :) -Anna ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 28 Mar 1999 17:29:51 -0500 From: Richard Subject: MWABT tour Just returned from a weekend in the Womyn's Republic of Northampton to catch Catnip in performance at 3rd Wave Feminst Booksellers (even Ferlinghetti's City Lights >Bookstore< is now >Booksellers<) and the dearth of ectopian acts at the Iron Horse and Pearl Street got me to thinking: What ever happened to Happy's MWABT tour? Is it over already?? I remember reading reviews here of preliminary shows in upstate NY and (I think) Philadelphia..... Is that all there is? - --Richard n.p. She has a lovely clear voice and delivery. The songs are done in what I would call a pretty way, but not prettified as some of the more New Age-y Celtic things seem to me. I like it a lot. She also has a disc with kathryn Roberts, simply entitled _Kate Rusby & Kathryn Roberts_ which I like a little bit less than her solo disc. This latter one is only available in the U.K. as far as I know, while _Hourglass_ is on a small U.S. label. - --Neile - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Neile Graham ...... http://www.sff.net/people/neile ....... neile@sff.net Les Semaines: A Weekly Journal . http://www.sff.net/people/neile/semaines The Ectophiles' Guide to Good Music ....... http://www.smoe.org/ectoguide ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 28 Mar 2000 22:04:00 -0800 From: "Kristen Weissleader" Subject: Re: MWABT tour - -----Original Message----- From: Richard To: ecto@smoe.org Date: Sunday, March 28, 1999 2:38 PM Subject: MWABT tour >Just returned from a weekend in the Womyn's Republic of Northampton to >catch Catnip in performance at 3rd Wave Feminst Booksellers (even >Ferlinghetti's City Lights >Bookstore< is now >Booksellers<) and the >dearth of ectopian acts at the Iron Horse and Pearl Street got me to >thinking: What ever happened to Happy's MWABT tour? I hear of the bigger acts, but never any of the people that are being mentioned on here who seem to tour around the Northeast. ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V5 #113 **************************
