Recent concerts attended and care to mention: Christine Lavin -- Feb 26 at the old Main Street Theater in Mansfield TX (little town about 30 SE of Fort Worth). I reviewed this show overnight for the paper, so unforunately I had to leave at intermission to meet my deadline. The first have was terrific, though. First time I've seen her. >From what I've read, though, she did her usual gimmicks and stories and explanations of songs and such. She had some fabulous intermission games and was going to be at the cafe next door to paint audience members' nails with her nail polish (her own line?). Sleater-Kinney -- March 10 in Dallas. Wow! How did we forget the two guitarists on the female guitarist thread? They rocked so hard, played about an hour plus two encores. I only have the newest album, so I'm not familiar with the other stuff ... but their songs are short and fast and it seems like they must've play almost the entire repertoire. Not good speakers with the audience, though. The few things they said were totally inane? Also saw Korn/Rob Zombie, only because I had to review it. I just can't go on enough about how much Korn reeks! Zombie was fun, though. If you haven't already, try listening on headphones. That's what did it for me. While I'm here: Thanks to those who were talking about the Praise disc. I hadn't listened to that in years, and pulled it out this afternoon. I'd forgotten just how good it was. And then I put on _Building The Colossus_, which, unlike many, I loved from the start. I haven't listened to it in a long time, though. I'm pleased to report that "Glory" and "Down, Down" still do that chills-down-the-spine thing, even after all this time. :) Oh yeah, and in between I spun (I can't believe I actually typed "spinned" first - geez :P) Area's _The Perfect Dream_. I always learn something from almost every list. I don't often have time to "taulk" but have made great fans and friends when I do. That is what happens when you put a bunch of folks together, no matter where or dicussing what? Ain't groups grand? Just being in two full time bands have made me at some times want to go live in a pulapa in mexico and eat beans and stare at the ocean. But then there are those "tribal" moments when you feel liked and supported and it's all worthwhile. To Richard in standford, thanks for ordering THE BLIND's first cd and if you come into the city (SF) and to other SF ectos, my second band, AZIGZA will play at a really cool benefit @ Cellspace on April 10th, also Charming Hostess and Thoth (two very ecto projects, one a singing violinist ala male Iva Bittova and the other 3 harmonizing women doing jewish and bulgarian songs)...plus my third band Echolalia (dream-trance-pop)will play at 9. There are dancers, spoken word, wheelchair dancers, singers, arial acts etc...and all monies are for Integrated Arts, classes for disabled dancers. 8pm to 2am with about 13 acts. Hope to see any of you there and please come up and say hello. Cyoahka, satisfied Ecto-reader PS just bought Warpaint and as a singer, still obbessing and amazing over the woman with "two voices"..this warm low and this exact Kate high...truly over the top. Anymore, that's the just about the only way I listen to music; between sharing a wall with a guy whose pseudonim is "Mr. A-hole", and having high-end Sennheiser headphones, and often working into the evening, my music-listening time has pretty much been reduced to a "lights out, headphones on, after-midnight" activity. :) But, you make a good point. - - B. np: Suzanne Vega - days of open Hand ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Mar 1999 23:39:24 EST From: FAMarcus@aol.com Subject: Re: Recorded Happy Concerts? I know of two of Mary Jane Lamond's cd's. Bho Thir Nan Craobh is filled with fairly traditional music while Suas e! rocks a bit more. I saw her open for Natalie MacMaster last fall at the Boulder Theater -- good show! Ellen ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V5 #95 *************************
