Hey folks! I know that Kate Bush doesn't like the fact that her demos have been bootlegged, but I have been looking all over the place to find myself a copy of them and have found no luck. Now, I know that some of you lucky people own copies of them, whether you'll admit to it or not...but if anyone out there in fuzzy blue land can point me in the right direction I would be ever so grateful. I'd kiss your virtual feet. I'd be willing to trade stuff for a copy, or something along those lines, too. Of course, if you don't belive in trading, just pretend you never saw me sinking to this level... Just thought Seattle Ectos might be around for a brief impromptu guest appearance of the Blind on Jan. 16th Sat nite. Here's the whole newsletter for those of you that may be interested in what I have been doing down there! Happy New Year to all. CYoakha Hi everyone and please excuse the long long wait...BLIND is alive and well, even scattered around the world. Please tell your friends and Seattle fans and join us for our first gig in 1999. Our friend's BAKSHISH (an amazing experiemental middle-eastern duo with hand-made instruments) have asked us to play at their CD release party in Seattle. We have Portland's Ed Drury joining us on acoustic guitar and bass and didgeridoo. New songs and old songs done new ways! The double-didging is alone worth the trip! Melo is back from Morrocco, Cyoakha flew in from San Francisco, Mark and Krsytov are ready and eager and our new drummer, Micheal is kicking! For those of you that have seen Bakshish play with us, you know the treat in store . Also opening the evening is NuMantra, a wonderful project that has played with BLIND before, very intensely dreamy! So, all you fans in Seattle waiting since ArtsEdge, 3 great bands in an intimate setting, and a fun party all for a very measly price! Hope to see you there! Nice Day Coffee Company, at the corner of 45th and Interlake, Seattle, this Saturday night, January 16th. NEW NEWS; BLIND's third album is out and doing well...called MONSTERMOTHERTREE! Starting to get some radio play. You can order it from us through the web site as it is not in ANY STORES!!! *Do check out the new web site design, Tony, our old keyboard player is doing amazing things up in Canada for us with the wild art Cyoakha sends him. * Cy is hard at work in SF, singing with a new project AZIGZA, a big bold symphonic-world-rock orchestra, kinda Led Zepplin meets Laurie Anderson... (see Portland writer's review of AZIGZA at ). Cy is also working closely as a writing team with KKSF's head engineer (and great musician) William Blum, they are writing soundtracks (including one for Seattle fan's new sci-fi movie BEING IN THE NIK OF TIME, see site at )as well as a trance-rave project ECHOLALIA. They have half an album's worth of material already done! Cyoakha has a great new CD demo available called CYOAKHA GRACE of 8 songs from 4 different albums, including LAND OF THE BLIND (4 songs from 2 albums), AZIGZA, and ECHOLALIA. ANY INTERESTED ECTOS can ask her for a copy and she will ship one at cost (around $5) just to let you know what she is working on. Please check the web site for upcoming LAND OF THE BLIND NW tour in March and SF tour in March also. We appreciate your support of our unusual music for the past 4 years and LAND OF THE BLIND thanks you and wishes you a HAPPY 1999! Subject: Stuffies, Liza >n.p. The Wonder Stuff: _Construction for the Modern Idiot_ Ah, so nice to see one of my favorite bands mentioned here on ecto, though I don't think they really quialify as "ecto" in the traditional terms. I find this last(?) album to be a nice sum-up of their relatively short-lived career. Anyone know what they are up to? I had heard a few rumours, like a gig in Jersey a year or so ago as well as a new band from Miles Hunt (I heard one single on John Peel's imported show when I was living in SF but it has faded from my radar) but dont know what to believe anymore. (Parse that!) Belated thanks to those who recommended Eliza Carthy's _Red Rice_, I picked it up on a depression shopping binge (as well as a copy of RhodesSongs for $4, already earmarked for delivery) and LOVE IT!! It goes along nicely with Angela's Ashes, which I am reading at the moment. Back to obscurity (knock knock)...I do need my beauty rest. Here's the most interesting parts of Lisa Cerbone's latest newsletter. It sounds like some pretty exciting directions are being taken since being dropped by her label/distributor. Before posting, I asked her if it was ok to include ectophiles in her CD sale, and she said: "You can definitely offer the special price to the ecto folks. They've all been very supportive of my music, so I think it should be passed onto them. Thank you for thinking of it. " So, there you have it. Read ahead for details. I like both albums, but particularly recommend Mercy. neal np: "so delicate and strangely made - In Be Tween Noise - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Have Mercy -- Some of you know that Ichiban and I recently ended our relationship. Because of this, the distributor will no longer be carrying _Mercy_ or _Close Your Eyes_. These CDs will become increasingly harder to find in record stores from now on. So, I've decided to make both CDs available to my mailing list for a one-time only, special sale price. You can order two CDs for only $10.00, including postage and handling. It's my little way of making sure that the CDs get out into the world and into the hands (and hearts) of music lovers (not stuck in some dark warehouse corner in a box). This sale will be going on for the next month or so. Just print out this sheet and send check or money order to Little Scrubby Music, PO Box 1714, Ellicott City, MD 21041. Make checks payable to Little Scrubby Music. Or you can print out the order form from the website : . Please specify quantity and which CD(s) you would like to order. Many thanks to all the people who will be supporting this endeavor to put more Mercy (and Close Your Eyes) in the world. What's in the Future? -- Now that I'm no longer on Ichiban, you may be wondering what's next? I have made plans to begin my next recording beginning the end of this month. It will be produced by Mark Kozelek of the Red House Painters and recorded in San Francisco. Mark is well-known for his brooding, confessional style of songwriting, and I have been a big fan of his for the past five years. I'm overjoyed with the prospect of working with someone I've admired for so long, and I think this next recording will help me develop my sound even further. In the meantime, I will be searching for another label and making the recordings available through shows and the website. Hopefully, if all goes well, you can expect the third CD to be out by the end of the summer. Real Audio/Real Video -- New songs and videos will be made available over the website very soon. As songs become recorded, I will be giving them test drives over the website. Also available will be the very raw, stark demos done acoustically and with the band. I'm hoping these will be uploaded by the end of the month. Many of you don't know this, but two videos were made for Mercy. We will try to get these uploaded on the site soon too. (This might take a little longer since the directions in the instruction booklet prompt us all to say "huh?" Very cryptic, indeed.) So, that is all the news for now. We'll keep you posted on all events and happenings. Check the website often as it's being updated often! Stay warm and thanks for all the support!
