Carol inquired: >Why do you say it's unlikely she'll do a new record? I guess I'm out of the >loops since I never subbed to lovehounds...but why wouldn't she do more records? Well, it's been 5+ years since _The Red Shoes_, and while there have been rumours that she's been back working in the studio, a statement put out by the Kate Bush Club over the summer categorically denied them all and said that any new album is only in "the idea stage" at this point. She's been withdrawing steadily farther back from the world for years now, and financially she's all set so she doesn't materially need to do another album. If she wants to do one for herself I'm sure she will, but there's no guarantee that will ever happen. And if she does, will Columbia/Sony have the patience with her to even put it out? (They'll probably not need a promotion budget if she does, so maybe they'll do it anyway.) I don't know ... I just have a feeling we're not going to see much from Ms. Bush in the future. No empirical evidence exists to back this up, but I wouldn't be surprised if that turned out to be the case. >I've even been fantasizing that one day maybe she'll get together with Donal >Lunny again and do an entire album of trad Irish music sung in Gaelic. Silly me, >I guess. That would be beyond cool ... anything she put out would be good, so long as it's better than _The Red Shoes_. +==========================================================================+ | Meredith Tarr meth@smoe.org | | New Haven, CT USA http://www.smoe.org/~meth | +==========================================================================+ | U.S.A. St. Mark's Place, between 2nd and 3rd avenues (I think - or is it 2nd and 1st?) has the best indie stores in the city, imho. There's St. Mark's Sounds, and the place across the street, the name of which I always have a mental block on. Both have dirt cheap CDs, for as low as 88 cents. If you have time to paw through all the bins, you're guaranteed to strike the jackpot somewhere. I'm sure woj and Don and others can provide other tips - but I'd put St. Mark's Place at the top of the "must see" list. +==========================================================================+ | Meredith Tarr meth@smoe.org | | New Haven, CT USA http://www.smoe.org/~meth | +==========================================================================+ | U.S.A. If she wants to do one for herself I'm > sure she will Wouldn't you say that all of her albums have been done for herself (with the possible exception of _Lionheart_, which EMI rushed out)? To my mind, they're high level artistic expression; suggesting that they were only done to make a quid demeans them down to, say, NKOTB's level. (that's not to say that KaTe didn't expect to make money, or that EMI didn't...but I honestly have trouble believing cash as KaTe's primary motive in releasing music) > And if she does, will Columbia/Sony > have the patience with her to even put it out? Does she need them to put it out? > That would be beyond cool ... anything she put out would be good, so long > as it's better than _The Red Shoes_. Given that I have no expectations of her reaching the heights of TD, HoL, or even TSW again (happy to be surprised, but I'm unwilling to expect genius; it's not fair to place those expectations on an artist -- I'd just be disappointed when they released a merely spectacular album), I'll gladly settle for something else on the level of TRS. I happened to listen to it last week, and enjoyed it immensely -- as I have since midnight of that tuesday morning in 11/93 when i drove all over DC looking for a shop that had stayped open late to sell it (finally found a shop in dc's gay ghetto which had stayed open to sell TRS and the new kd lang album; an awful lot of people in the line were buying both. ;-) jeff np: _Ray of Light_, Madonna - -- |Jeffrey C.
