To toss in my two cents, I'm with Meredith on not getting Imogen Heap (and also on thinking Rachael Sage is great). The first time I listened to _I Megaphone_ I got about halfway through it before giving up. To me it was less a matter of her actually sounding like Alanis (who, btw, I don't like at all) than her sounding like she was *trying* to sound like Alanis. Maybe it was her phrasing or something, I dunno. I wasn't impressed enough by the rest of what was going on to get past it. It was some time before I went back and gave the album another chance. When I finally did I didn't have the same bad reaction that the first listen had caused, but I'm still really, really underwhelmed by the whole thing. >I hope you try to catch Imogen live, especially on this leg while she's >playing solo. > >It really, truly, was the closest thing I have experienced to girl/piano >blend (actually better because she doesn't have Tori's mannerisms) to >seeing Tori play at The Backstage in 1992. Well, personally I *like* Tori's mannerisms. ;) I am hoping to catch Imogen when she plays in NYC (12/15, CB's Gallery), so hopefully I'll be more impressed with her live than I am with her album. Judging from the comments I've seen about her shows I think it's pretty likely that will be the case. Arrrggghhh... that is so painful seeing as the closest she comes to Toronto is Rochester tomorrow, and being vehicle-less and cash-light I really see no way of being able to make it to that show. How depressing! I'm continually blown away by her CD and I'd really like to see her live in a really intimate setting. Please, someone who is seeing Imogen play on this tour, tell her to come to Toronto! Anyways I keep meaning to post about the show featuring Jessica Weiser that James McGarry and I organized a week ago but haven't managed it yet. If there are any Toronto-area lurkers interested, two of the acts from that show (Dylan White and Rayanne) are playing tonight at Holy Joe's in Toronto. While there's a gazillion choices here (KaTe's "Lily" anyone?), any chance you'll do some of the woman's names songs from PJ Harvey's _Is This Desire?_ That's like half the record: "Angelene," "My Beautiful Leah," "A Perfect Day Elise," "Catherine," and "Joy" (which is not about the emotion...) Love ya babe, you know I do, but you might have mentioned (for the benefit of all those folks in Europe, Russia, Australia and New Zealand, not to mention Canada & most of the USA, that this place Schubas happens to be in Chicago, Illinois. They might have guessed from your sig line, but you could have made it clearer for all those woefully deprived* folks that they really should visit Chicago. Vickie *because we have Schubas & Hoots and they don't, poor things. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 1 Dec 1998 21:35:14 -0500 From: Paul Blair Subject: Re: Holiday Party at the Hoot Night! Actually, I found almost all of the capsule reviews that went with the list to be virtually incomprehensible. The heights of rock criticism, I guess. I recently picked up Chantal Krevuziak's disc, and had some strange experiences with it. It doesn't say anywhere that it is a CD-Plus, but one of my computers at work couldn't deal with it. Never did find the music, just a bunch of directories full of stuff that didn't look particularly interesting. The setup program wanted to install EarthLink, which I had no interest in. Is there anything on there that is worth looking at? My other computer could play it, but doesn't have good speakers attached :/ Neal np: All Under The Sun - Steve Tilston & Maggie Boyle ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 2 Dec 1998 01:51:04 -0500 (EST) From: Heidi Heller Subject: Re: Neile's discoveries On Tue, 1 Dec 1998, neal copperman wrote: > At 8:07 AM -0800 12/1/98, Neile Graham wrote: > >>> > >>> Margot O'Breslin > >>> P.O. I was quite inspired by Neile's post to immediately run and purchase this CD, but as my family members began scrambling for ideas on what to buy me this holiday season, I decided to put this on my wish list to make their lives easier! Thank goodness! If I had sent off my moo-lah, I would be MOST disappointed by the misinformation! What a HORRIBLE mistake to have on your web page. I usually cringe at spelling and grammar mistakes (on web sites, not necessarily in posts!) but listing the wrong ordering instructions?! If you are trying to sell a product, specifically YOURSELF, you should be darn sure that the address people are sending their $$ to is accurate! My $.02... Neal, I hope you get yours!
