What I want to do with this sampler is give an impression of what the various albums are like, for someone who knows and loves "The Book of Secrets" and Celtic music. (Hi Sami!) So while it's not necessarily 'my favourites' or a 'best of' I tried to choose tracks that "summarize" each album (excluding the Christmas/Winter albums). This is partly due to the length of the songs, for example my 'best of' would definitely include "The Lady of Shalott" but at 11 minutes that would simply take too much space on the 90 minute tape, or to the availability - I prefer the live version of "Stolen Child" but that is very hard to find, so that would be teasing. :-) Anyway, also included on this tape is a selection of Kate Price's two cd's. Here's the track listing: Side A. - - The Mask and Mirror (Loreena McKennitt): * The Mystic's Dream * The Bonny Swans * Full Circle - - The Visit (Loreena McKennitt): * All Souls Night * Bonny Portmore * The Old Ways - - Parallel Dreams (Loreena McKennitt): * Samain Night * Dickens' Dublin (The Palace) Side B. - - Elemental (Loreena McKennitt): * Stolen Child (album version :-) ) * Come by the Hills - - The Time Between (Kate Price): * Calling Me Home * Slavic Nights * Ballad of the Bog - - Deep heart's core (Kate Price) * Sonatina Montenegro * Rest Sweet Nymphs * The Journey On * Eliz Iza / Jump at the Sun Any suggestions for improvement are still welcome, I haven't sent off the tape yet... :-) Speaking of Loreena McKennitt, here are some News bits taken from the official Quinlan Road homepage. Apparently several of her songs are used in several movies and television series, like "Soldier" ("Night Ride Across The Caucasus"), "The Holy Man" ("Prologue") and "Legacy" ("The Mummers' Dance"). But more interesting (to me at least) is the news about a new live CD. According to the website: " A double live CD entitled "LIVE IN PARIS AND TORONTO", recorded at Paris' Salle Pleyel and Toronto's Massey Hall during that tour, will be available within the coming months, exclusively through our [= Quinlan Road's] mail order service. (In other words, you will not be able to purchase it in shops.) Watch this site for further details - as soon as we have a confirmed release date, that information will appear here. " And 'this site' is at http://www.quinlanroad.com/index2.html . I'm certainly looking forward to that cd! Best wishes, Marion n.p. nothing (i.m.h. Please. >[...] For what it's worth, my understanding is that the album's producer, Patrick Leonard, has co-writer credits on "Hands"... maybe (hopefully) that has a little bit to do with the sound? I'm on the Jewel list, and after hearing people talk about the video, I expected to see a 3 minute and 20 second "Titanic," what with all the "it's great" noise I've heard about it. I saw the video, and was disappointed with it. Of course, I should have expected as much, after having been fairly disappointed with the song, as well. I think the song is "eh, okay" at most... it was okay the first time I heard it, and the more I listen, the less the song gets it done for me. The video is even less memorable than the song. Since a good portion of the songs on the album have been around for a while (Deep Water, Innocence Maintained, Fat Boy (previously Fragile Flame... a name change whose logic escapes me, quite honestly), Absence Of Fear, a couple others, I believe, as well), I'm still hoping that Jewel will come through, and Hands will be more of the exception than the rule on this album. The music is spectacular, but one song in particular has captured my attention. That song is called "Paris is Waiting", and the band credited is a band called Lost Lonely and Vicious. Does anyone else know what else the band has done? I tried doing a web search on them but could find nothing about them aside from discography listings for the _Flirt_ soundtrack. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Also...how is Lydia Kavanaugh's work with She Never Blinks? I like her contributions to the soundtrack, and she's sung backup for some of my fave musicians. When I was doing web searches, I found a page for them, but I don't know if I want to shell out for their album yet. - --C. - ---- Chelsea, the mod pixie home: away: tugboat@channel1.com odyshape@hotmail.com "I started out as a missionary, but I couldn't find a religion which didn't promise things to some people at the exclsion of others. I'm seeing Jennifer's old buddy, Jonatha Brooke, tonight in concert and went to an in-store performance (at Borders) by Jonatha's opening act, Laurie Geltman. If you have a chance to see Laurie, she's really talented! Kind of a cross between k. d. lang and Michelle Malone....and a great guitarist! Ok, on to business. I have received payment from Karen Whyte, Mary Longo, Allison Bieller, and Greg Dunn. And I'm expecting payment from Andrea Rotter tonight and Cindy Kelly in tomorrow's mail. That means I haven't received $$ from Malanai or Karli.....is it on its way? And I'm wondering if others of you whose e-mail addresses are listed above still plan to attend. Now for the directions: I'm in the town of Mason, which is about 19 miles northeast of the city of Cincinnati. It's easily accessible from either I-71 or I-75 (You'll have to check your map or go to www.tripquest.com to find out how to get from your city to Cincinnati. Indianapolis people should take I-74 East to I-275 to I-75 towards Dayton.). If you're coming from I-71, take the Mason-Montgomery/Fields-Ertel Rd. exit. You'll want to head NORTH on Mason-Montgomery Road.....so you should see a big Marriott and an Applebee's on your right as you head north towards Mason. (If you're coming from the north on I-71 southbound, it's just a simple right turn off the exit. If you're coming from the south on I-71 northbound, you'll turn left off of the exit -- best to get in the middle turn lane on the exit ramp.) You'll go about five miles north on Mason-Montgomery Road before you get to my subdivision, Lakeside......the rest of the directions are below. If you're coming from I-75, take the Tylersville Road exit. Then go EAST on Tylersville Road (towards the Perkins Pancake House and the other fast food places, not towards Meijer's and Wal-Mart). Stay on Tylersville Road for about 3 - 5 miles. You'll cross US 42 and then the road narrows to a divided two lanes. You'll turn LEFT onto Mason-Montgomery Road, which is by two churches and Mason High School. Look for the first subdivision on your left (about 1/4 of a mile).....called LAKESIDE. Turn left into Lakeside (Lakeside Drive).....then take your first left (Little Lake Drive). Then the next left (Mere Drive). I'm at the very end of the street (four houses from the corner), which is a dead end. It's a brick and gray siding two-story house with a red door. There's a little white fence around the flower beds in front and we have a Thanksgiving flag flying from the front door post. The address is 6276 Mere Drive. And in case you get lost......the phone number is 459-7506. Remember, Jennifer will be selling her CD "Veering From the Wave" at the concert. So if you haven't bought it, or if you would like to buy some more copies to give as gifts, bring cash!!! ;-) Also, snacks and/or beverages are welcome. Doors open at 6:30 so that Jennifer can have a little privacy and time to gather her thoughts before the concert. For more information call me at 459-7506. See you soon! After enjoying _Something Wild_ last weekend when it aired on Comedy Central, I wanted to get a copy of the soundtrack. My main reason for wishing for such an animal had to do with the extensive use of the Feelies' music -- several tracks by the band appear on the movie's sound track (including a rad driving scene timed to "Slippin' (Into Somethin')"), and the band play a cover band called "the Willies" in a scene that takes place at the high-school reunion, whipping out awesome versions of David Bowie's "Fame" and "Everybody's Got Something To Hide (Except Me and My Monkey)" by the Beatles. That said, I was disappointed to get a copy of the soundtrack on vinyl and find that there were NO songs by the Feelies or the Willies. My ignorance of the track listing has to do with the confusing layout of the record sleeve, btw. Though the Feelies aren't exactly an Ecto-group, we have enough of a spread in musical tastes that someone might be able to answer the musical question: are there any bootlegs circulating with all or most of the covers from the movie? I know there's at least a 12" single with "Everybody's Got Something to Hide..." and one other tune. If anyone can help me track down these songs, I would be soooo appreciative. Another artist that I'm looking for more info on based on her awesome contribution to the SW soundtrack is Sister Carol. Just when I thought I was plumb tuckered out with the Troggs' "Wild Thing", she came along and recorded a kick-ass version of it. How is the rest of her material? Is it worth looking into? Are there any inexpensive compilations of her tunes that I can listen to before I make a commitment? Thanks in advance, guys. - ---- Chelsea, the mod pixie home: away: tugboat@channel1.com odyshape@hotmail.com "I started out as a missionary, but I couldn't find a religion which didn't promise things to some people at the exclsion of others.
