I hope all of the Happy concerts have been excellent, and I really hope she lands in Omaha. I would think that Samson would want it to. A couple of questions. Does anybody know what has happened to suddenly, tammy!? Last I heard WB dropped them, but I haven't heard anything since. Plus, if anybody sees The Nields soon, tell Nerissa I said she needs to come back to Omaha. Please? :-) Latest acquisitions: Mary Lou Lord, _She Had You_ single. I saw this in the $.99 bin and decided to give it a listen. I like it. Since this is only a single, is the rest of her material this good? Anam, _Riptide_. I listened to the first two songs at Borders and liked them. However, the rest of the disc does little for me. I guess part of my problem was I was expecting another Altan. It's good, though, to hear another version of "Westlin' Winds". Then after I buy it I saw on this list that the lead singer quit. Bummer. Her voice is what attracted me to the group. I guess I will stick with Altan. Dee Carstensen, _Beloved One_. Again a disc on sale. The first couple of times through it I wasn't impressed. However, after a couple more listens I like it. It's a little "poppier" than "usual", but overall very nice. She reminds me of so many other singers. Unfortunately, since this is such a "produced" album, it's hard to hear her harp. The Nields, _Play_. For me, the ultimate Nields disc. This one is great! It will definitely reside in my top ten list for the year, as well as "life". For those who don't like _Gotta Get Over Greta_, but liked _Bob on the Ceiling_, you will like this disc. It has the "folkiness" of "Bob", with a little of the "spit and polish" of "Greta". Awesome. Matt Bittner np: my wife on the phone nr: _The Silmarillion_, J.R.R. Tolkien (I've decided that with the movies starting in 2000, I want to read through the entire series starting with this. Man this book is dull. :-)) ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. It happens to be my 20 year old daughters favorite cd of Happy's and just might be mine to, after all this time. My second point is I just finished taping the interview that Happy gave to WXPN and Shawn ( wilson, i think). Shawn is the lady who made what I took as a sarcastic reference to Happy sounding like Kate Bush when she first came on the station. In all my years of listening to interviews this may well be the most incompetent I've heard. It was obvious that she didnt know Happy. I might be wrong, but I thought that Happy was going through the motions and not her usual friendly self. Shawn is part of the programing team and had a lot to do with Happy's stuff not being played in the last few months. It was ironic, with so many who knew Happy on this station, that shawn was the one to interview her. Shawn actually made a reference to a Kate Bush song that was about her computer in comparison to 100 years. I don't think Happy was too happy. I know I wasn't. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 11 Oct 1998 15:39:18 -0700 (PDT) From: Old Spice Subject: Diamanda Lyrics I need lyrics for "Baby's Insane," from _The_Sporting_Life" ASAP. (It's a long story.) It's difficult to make some of them out. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Here's what I can gather so far: Arms covered in blood the war has begun hide the straight razor cause baby's insane the telephone number the knock on the door hide all the knives cause baby's insane CHORUS: Baby's insane Baby's insane Baby's on a trip to the moon again Baby's insane Baby's insane hide all the knives cause Baby's insane She runs down your birthday till the cats on the lawn all bear their claws at the sound of your name dpon't knock on her window don't knock on her door she's bricked up your welcome one inch off the floor CHORUS the roaches of life where she sleeps at night stream over her bed help us find some light it stinks of velveeta world is under her tongue I'll be screaming of you with the headlights on CHORUS Shes big; check the white roses from the funeral page there's a whole lot of cities where a good man can age I know that she loves you but it's time to move on don't miss the bus cause baby's insane CHORUS Now, a lot of those are obviously wrong: even Diamanda usually makes more sense than that. Thanks in advance to anyone who helps me figure this out. - --charley _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? I haven't had mcuh time for e-mail this week, so I'm a bit late with my comments on the Bearsville show - I'll keep it brief, though, since most everyon else has weighed in already. First, if there were so many other ectophiles in attendance, why didn't I meet everyone??? Fog, Tom Ditto, Pieohpah5@aol.com ... where were you all??? I was in between woj and Chuck right in the front row, to Happy's right. (And I have to say that I ended up with the copy of TIMELAPSE Chuck won, because Happy lied and it turned out to be for Windows, not Mac. Hah. Haven't had a chance to play it, though. ;) Second, I can't wait for the NYC show on Tuesday, because I really want to see what the show is like when it's all together. The several minute-long pauses in between each song while they worked out the technical glitch of the moment really kept me from being able to get into it, and even though Happy was able to fill the time well (I was in pain at one point, I was laughing so hard) it was quite jarring. I was also too close to really get the effect of the lights (not to mention Happy kept disappearing from view). The show was definitely a dress rehearsal. I'm sure you folks in Philly and tomorrow night in Troy will have a much better experience. The music, though, was wonderful. I was *so* happy to see Kevin walk onstage with his guitar!!! I just can't imagine a Happy show without him. And I didn't recognize Carl Adami immediately (he cut his hair, and now he looks like Graham Chapman :), but listening to his bass made it clear early on who it was. It will never cease to amaze me how Happy can make those beautiful sounds come out of herself, with seemingly no effort whatsoever. Experiencing the climactic part of "Looking Over Cliffs" live was every bit as stunning as I thought it would be. "Roy" really worked much better with the live arrangement, and "Serenading Genius" was an epiphany. Can't wait to hear the reports from Philly and Troy. woj and I were thinking about making the trek south today, but reason prevailed. Hope to see a bunch of you at the El Flamingo Tuesday night... +==========================================================================+ | Meredith Tarr meth@smoe.org | | New Haven, CT USA http://www.smoe.org/~meth | +==========================================================================+ | "things are more beautiful when they're obscure" -- veda hille | | *** TRAJECTORY, the Veda Hille mailing list: *** | | *** http://www.smoe.org/meth/trajectory.html *** | +==========================================================================+ ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V4 #363 **************************
