Hi everybody! I just wanted to give a hearty welcome to my good friend, Sue, who joined ecto yesterday all the way from Australia! (We have a few other Australian ectophiles Sue, I'm sure you'll see their posts eventually). I'll let her introduce herself when she feels comfortable, but I'm sure she will soon be imparting some amusing witticisms upon us in no time. She is my source for lots of great Australian music that has been discussed here before, and without her i would never have had the privilege of hearing all 3 of Deborah Conway's amazing solo albums! She also provided me with the wonderful Margot Smith. (Of course, I will take the credit of sending her Happy's CD's!) Anyway, welcome Sue! You'll find the people quite nice here! Michael n.p. I wasn't crazy about it at first - none of the songs really jumped out at me the way they did on Become What You Are and Only Everything, but it's starting to grow on me now. That was the first (and so far only) time I've listened to _Bed_. I didn't care for the "crunchier" songs much at all, but I liked the more melodic ones. I had been wanting to hear Juliana's work for a long time, so I started with her recent EP when it came out. After the one listen to the new album, I'd say I like the EP better at this moment. _Bed_ isn't exactly making me want to rush out and get some of her earlier albums; however, it sounds like you would recommend them over her more recent work. Same with the former lead singer of Lush, and others. Bella Union is doing some interesting stuff & getting into gear. Folks may want to visit their website at www.bellaunion.com to see what they're up to. Carol (who didn't get over to Athens to see Cat Power, Andrew...sorry! I loved Sinead live and everyone should try to see her if she's coming your way. Her band is fantastic too. Her cd is really growing on me, well, let's just say it's done a job on me & is now in frequent rotation. My fave song is definitely "Believe It If You Like"...it got a great response live as well. "Diving..." got a great response live too & it's one of my faves. But there ain't a song on that cd I don't like. She's a real talent who will hopefully have the stateside success she deserves. While it is probably not a release that will grab you at first listen, it is worth anyone's while to give it a few spins. It's subtle and unassuming, yet there's something fresh about it. Ohmygodohmygodohmygod-- Don't miss her. There was a time when I'd've considered going to Ireland to see her live--she's definitely one of my deities--but then she came to the U.S. for the first time a few years ago. Vickie and I simultaneously let go all our sphincters when we learned she'd be performing--twice in as many days--in that old backwater, Chicago. After the show, I took it upon myself to introduce Vickie to Mary and her manager as someone who played Mary's stuff on the radio. The manager offered Vickie an interview. Vickie said oh no I don't do interviews. I said would you excuse us just a moment and I dug my nails into Vickie's arm and pulled her into a dark corner and explained to her that yes, she did do interviews. Then I nudged her back over to where Mary and her manager were still standing, wondering what all _that_ was about, and Vickie said--after I poked her a couple times--Vickie said I mean, yes, I do do interviews. So the interview era of Vickie's show began. Thanks to Mary Coughlan. (Which is pronounced, by the way, Cocklin.) If you do see her, try to get a chance to say hi, and tell her Vickie and I said hi. - --charley - ---Markku Kolkka wrote: > > Hello, I delurk to ask the ecto-opinion on Mary Coughlan. Oh, and anyone planning to see Heather Nova in Old Bridge NJ today might want to know that the show is actually going to at the Fast Lane in Asbury Park.
