Happy is considering two other venues, the Painted Bride and the Keswick. Dates TBA, hopefully October. Watch this space for details as they become available! Along with the ecto website you might want to bookmark the Terra Incognita site, Happy's online fanzine done by Sharon Nichols. And to make sure you keep in the pipeline on all Happy's future releases, you might also want to register yourself as a fan of hers with her new record company, Samson Music. Their website is www.samsonmusic.com. Have fun with the new cd...available at CD Now and Music Blvd online, as well as Borders, Tower, Best Buy and your local music stores! I was greeted with a total >indifference and as people have been seeing her, an actual dislike for what >she is doing has been coming out, which I predicted would happen. i had saved your post, meaning to follow-up in agreement, but just never got around to it due to the usual assortment of work overload, computer problems and so on. i understand the point-of-view of those who are not thrilled by her current live show. in fact, i'm surprised that so few long-time fans are disappointed -- i was expecting more would not enjoy the current turn of events. but, i'm not one of them. i loved (and love) the quiet, intimate shows of yore, but i've been waiting for her to break out with the band since the second album. not to detract from the solo piano performances, but three tours of that, well, left room for changes. on the other hand, during the two-song interludes when she plays accompanied only by the piano, it's seems pretty clear that she'll never leave that part of her music behind. whether this current band thing is something she needs to work out of her system or a sign of things to comes, i'm sure she'll return to the solo piano stuff in the future -- it's too much of her essence and her style not to. >I just pray that they come out with a CD on this as soon as possible. good news: that's exactly what the rumors are. more than a few people reported talking to tori's parents at some of the shows around the washington, d.c. area and the word from dr. amos is that there is a plan for a live record. tori has also indicated that this was a stronger possibility than not for the next realease. of course, nothing is definite at this point, but i'm sure looking forward to such a release -- audience-recorded bootlegs can only go so far. also sprach joe zitt: >Sounds like she's been changing her set around quite a bit from show to >show, which I understand is rare for arena acts. the structure of the shows is the same (six band songs, two solo songs, four or five band songs, two encores) and there are a few "core" songs ("precious things", "raspberry swirl", "cruel", "spark"), but the rest of the set list is pretty fluid from night to night. she sometimes sticks to the written set list, but strays fairly often. in typical tori fashion, some songs just "show up" and want to be played. another thing that i've been impressed by, in addition to the spontaneity of the set list, is that there is a fair amount of jamming during the songs. more often than not, she extends each song, twiddling around on the piano as the band plays the basic chords and beat. as the tour progressed, the band has also gotten in on the twiddling as well, which has been really cool to hear. when she's ready to finish a song, she signals the band with a wave and then they tie up the loose ends. nothing overly improvisational, but still a fun thing to hear and see. >I'm guessing that since her show is pretty much visually static (*not* >a criticism) it makes it possible for them to change things on the fly >without causing the lighting, sound, and effects folk to completely >spazz. actually, it looks like they have lighting schemes for each song. fortuantely, but the crew is accustomed to her ways and usually figure out quickly what she's doing when she decides to stray from what is written on the set list. finally, jill :D sprach: >Oh, by the way......what was with all >those young girls with the angel wings? Is that a Tori thing? as some of you know, tori and the fairies get along rather nicely. seems fashionable for the young girls to share in the spirit. woj n.p. the fan ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 31 Aug 1998 23:28:58 -0500 (CDT) From: The Watcher Subject: Re: TORI'S TOUR (continued) At 11:40 PM 8/31/98 -0400, woj wrote: >more than a few people >reported talking to tori's parents at some of the shows around the >washington, d.c. area and the word from dr. amos is that there is a plan >for a live record. tori has also indicated that this was a stronger >possibility than not for the next realease. of course, nothing is definite >at this point, but i'm sure looking forward to such a release -- At the Richmond show, one of our party noted that DTS equipment was attached to the soundboard, indicating that the show was probably recorded. This same person more recently has said that he has heard that there will be a live recording released later in the year (I think he said by Christmas), but I don't remember or perhaps know the source of his information. >there are a few "core" songs >("precious things", "raspberry swirl", "cruel", "spark"), The Waitress also seems to be a core song. She's ended the main set with it for at least three of the four concerts I attended. It seems to be an anchor, along with PT at the beginning of the set. Spark is usually played, of course, but RS and Cruel have been skipped sometimes.
