Unless I'm wrong . . . It came up in a search I did on LH&R and I don't know Jane's CD "Maria" well enough - but I thought well, it is a jazz influenced CD and it could be her own version of it . I have to listen to "Maria" again or read the liner notes (which I can't find - don't ask but my aircon drooled water on to the carpet which 3 huge cases of records absorbed so I'm having a music crisis causing some disarray - pointers on what to do with records that have gotten wet at the bottoms appreciated) Otherwise, it says so over at CDnow or one of those places which can churn up hardly precise info on searches... Didn't The Pointer Sisters do the all time "Cloudburst" cover? Birdie ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 20 Aug 1998 18:37:47 -0700 From: "C. K. Cringing at the thought - Well, it was that combination of very uppermiddle class whiteness combined with an almost nursery rhymeness which would have better served 70's children's music and where the competion may have been too stiff. Shari Lewis was extremely talented at performing for children.....She performed with over 100 orchestras in her career, and I'm not sure if Lambchop was with her on all those occassions. Margie Adam always reminded me of someone who had a lot of piano lessons...and did have a sort of fantasy trip going which was probably best for girls. Someone should do a "what are they doing now" story. > But I wouldn't rule out the entire wimmin's (another spelling!) > music genre because of a few stinkers! There have been some wonderful artists in > this genre, albeit with some inconsistencies in their output. The same with all genres isn't it?....some genres are just bigger and have more variety in them........more hay to hunt for needles in. As of right now, Susan James and Cindy Wasserman will be attending but not performing -- although I won't stop them if they decide otherwise. We have more than enough great talent to make for a beautiful night of music so we hope you can make it. When: Saturday August 22, 1998; 6pm-TBD Where: the home of Larry Greenfield Confirmed Performers: Aife Wells, Beth Waters, Abby Travis, Pamela Goodchild, Marcella Detroit, Essey, and Mary Dolan Patronage: Please RSVP to Larry Greenfield or myself as soon as possible. We encourage you to bring your friends and family. Admission is a minimum $10/person which will be divided evenly between the artists. Additional donations are welcome and would be appreciated. Other Information: This will be a very casual gathering of music lovers, music professionals, and, of course, musicians. There is obviously no dress code but it is recommended that you bring warm clothing as this event is being held outdoors and will extend on through the night. For directions to the home of Larry Greenfield contact Larry or myself. Food & drink will be available. CD giveaways will also be taking place. - ---- Susan will have copies of her wonderful new double CD available at the show. You can find more on Susan on the Ecto Guide at: And at her official site: She's also going to be featured in Guitar and Billboard Magazines in the coming weeks -- as well as going on a nationwide tour beginning in September through December. - ---- Also, Abby Travis is doing another solo show at Highland Grounds in Hollywood tonight with the great Martin Luther Lennon. Do try and attend (if you aren't attending the Cowboy Junkies/Over the Rhine show). ___ Thanks for your time.
