I went over to her desk It's probably The Corrs doing the song Dreams. It's taken from the album, Legacy: a tribute to Fleewood Mac's Rumours. Ironically, I just listened to it. The Corrs consist basically of 3 sisters, (Irish? or just Irish sounding). Other performers on the CD include Shawn Colvin doing The Chain, Jewel doing You Make Lovin' Fun, Elton John singing Don't Stop and the Cranberries performing Go Your Own Way. I haven't heard that much stuff by the Corrs and that which I have heard wasn't very memorable. However if anyone cares for a little trivia... I recently caught a teevee show on the subject of women in (popular) music that mentioned them. It was one of those shows riding the Lilith wave, though it didn't have anything to do with Lilith itself. Several of the artists they featured were also on Lilith, though. Anyway, the story went that the Corrs are three sisters and one brother from Ireland. Determined to make it big, they hung around in a studio in New York or somewhere; a studio they knew that David Foster frequents. When he eventually turned up they buttonholed him and flashed pretty dark-haired smiles and asked him to listen to their demos or whatever. The program interviewed Foster himself at this point and he reminisced cheerfully about being bowled over by these three beautiful women - and one handsome man, he hastily added. The youngest of the sisters has also had minor roles in the Commitments and Evita. Anyway, Foster apparently produced their debut album, which sort of sums it all up, really. Not that there's anything inherently wrong about being beautiful or using one's beauty to sell one's talent or records - just that Foster has long been involved in a certain type of slick, unthreatening and frankly commercial music, and that seems to be the market the Corrs are targetting. They're bright and perky, have a glamorous fashion model cachet and move a lot of product outside North America, but I wouldn't say they're particularly ectophilic. - Neil K. - -- 49N 16' 123W 7' + nkg@nettwerk.com + (604) 654-2929 Technical Services Manager, Nettwerk Productions 1250 West 6th Ave. Vancouver, BC, Canada V6H 1A5 I'm just me; not a spokesperson for Nettwerk ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 4 Jun 1998 13:27:14 -0700 From: deanorez@juno.com Subject: Upcoming on KCRW Upcoming on KCRW 89.9FM (All times Pacific) Friday, June 5 Morning Becomes Eclectic at 11:00 AM Record producer and musician Mitchell Froom has worked with everyone from Crowded House to Sheryl Crow. Course, they could throw it into the world music section based on the label. I wonder why they released it on LB? (And no, I haven't listened to it yet, but I did note it contains a cover of Soundgardens Black Hole Sun) Neal np: Delerium - Karma ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 04 Jun 1998 23:28:45 -0400 From: Joseph Zitt Subject: Re: OAC: Emm Gryner Tour Date Revision Riphug@aol.com wrote: > I'm guessing that those dates must be for June.......just because there was no > mention of Emm's scheduled Lilith Fair performances in Camden, NJ, and > Columbia, MD on July 17th and 18th....... There's a Lilith Fair in Camden, NJ?! The city must have changed a lot from when I grew up there -- at that time its only distinguishing features were the Campbell Soup headquarters and having the highest rate of arson in the USA! - -- - ---------1---------1---------1---------1---------1---------1---------- |||/ Joseph Zitt ===== jzitt@humansystems.com ===== Human Systems \||| ||/ Maryland? = <*> SILENCE: The John Cage Mailing List <*> = ecto \|| |/ http://www.realtime.net/~jzitt ====== Comma: Voices of New Music \| ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 05 Jun 1998 00:00:09 -0400 From: "Jeffrey C. Yup, and I got my fifth copy of the Cherry Poppin' Daddies album when I was at it :) I'd be happier with the Delerium album if it contained a song called Lamenation, rather than Lamentation. I think we are long overdue for a song (or maybe a whole album!) on the subject. Neal np: Cindy Lee Berryhill - Who's Gonna Save The World (bootleg cd - hmmm, I left comment on this out of my review of CLB's show, but I don't see that it's that big a secret.... Since Rhino let this disc go out of print, many people have been clammering for it. Someone on the Jewel list even paid $100 for it before the living room tours last year. [yeah, I paid $4 for my copy.] Anyway, CLB thought if people are willing to spend that kind of money, she should do something about it. So, she coverd up most of the label info (a tag ripped off her pillow replaces the bar code!), waltzed into her neighborhood Kinko's, and told them it was her own self-produced album. They must not have looked too carefully, since they went ahead and burnt out a small run of them, and photocopied the booklets. The resolution is slightly fuzzy, but it looks good. She's selling them only at shows for $20 a pop ($5 of which she claims will go to her legal defense fund). I'll be sending her a copy of the Nields newsletter, where they tell the story of freeing their masters, when I send copies of the show at Iota. It's kind of funny that I paid $4 for the original out of print disc, and $20 for a personalized bootleg years later.) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 5 Jun 1998 01:19:16 EDT From: Paul2k@aol.com Subject: Re: Mimi Goese I really really dig the Mimi album _Soak_ At moments, it reminds me of Garbage, Bjork, and Moby (which is understandable since she did Vocals on his album _Everything is Wrong_). Hector Zazou produced some of the tracks. There is a "hidden" song at about 11 minutes on the last track. I'm not that coherent right now.
