WHat's funny is that I didn't like Botti as a player all that much. Now, maybe it's years of working with stuck-up musicians, but hell, I didn't like the way he walked. :) Now, putting that aside, I thought his playing was good, but he didn't take a lot of risks. Prime example would be on "3 Minutes of Pure Entertainment", I don't think the guy ever strayed from Isham's line when I saw them. I would have preferred Mark Isham a great deal at the show, but... Before they hit stores! There already are 3 CD-EPs currently available, and you can choose 0, 1, 2 or all 3 of those to begin with and the remainder of the 6 will arrive as they are finished! The current discs are: THE RELATIONSHIPS "Country Catalogue" (Oxford, England "Victorian Rock" with elegant guitars and lovely, splendorous vocals! 5 songs) SWEET WILLIAM "Ambiguous" (Adelaide, South Australia jangle-pop that has been enjoying many comparisons to Morrissey. 4 songs.) CASINO ASHTRAYS "Bus to Vegas" (Southern California Softies-esque bedroom-pop with quiet guitars, female vocals and trumpet. 3 songs.) You can sign up today by emailing me a private reply with your name and address and any or all of those 3 discs you'd like and I will send them out promptly along with a hip little membership card, a Moped Press mini-'zine and a bill payable by check/money order/cash! Bosho did release at least one disc that I have not been able to track down. It may not have been a domestic. It's long since out of print. I believe they did release a few albums in this country on vinyl though. Haven't been able to locate copies of those either. A friend has them and taunts me with them on occasion. I was to see another band that Kumiko was to play with at the Factory involving John Zorn, Kumiko and percussionist Ikue Mori. Unfortunately Kumiko was deported during the interval between when I got the ticket and when the show was supposed to go down. Damm shame too, I heard from people that had seen them previously that they wailed. The only Bosho recording that I've been able to get my hands on was a single track on the "Island of Sanity" (New Music from New York City) sampler. Samm Bennett the extraordinary downtown percussion improviser was on the track as well. (late of Chunk & Third Person among other things) I noticed that Han Rowe was listed in the liner notes of Curlew's "Bee" as producer. Since the topic of this post is just about as far from Ecto as is possible, and of little interest to anyone other than perhaps Woj and possibly Joe Zitt I'll break it off. But I did want to establish a link between Music Ectophilic and the downtown improvisational music genre, even if the connection is of the most tenuous nature, by citing Chanting House's Michelle Kinney, Lindsay Horner and Joe Trump's involvement in Orchestra Carbon's recording; Elliott Sharp/Orchestra Carbon "Abstract Repressionism: 1990-99" on Victo cd019. For those unfamiliar, Area is the band that grew out >>of The Arms of Someone New that featured Lynn Canfield on vocals, who later >>went on to The Moon Seven Times. was lynn canfield a member of the arms of someone new? i thought that was purely steve jones' band. (i'd check, but the only item by them i have is on vinyl and the turntable is still packed from last year's move). i also thought that area grew more out of ack ack than taosn. but then again, the earliest taosn stuff and all of the ack ack 12" singles were on office records, so i guess there was overlap. guess i could just ask lynn, huh? or henry, if he's still around. >Finally Area will be available again! yay! Well, Susan McKeown (with Mila Drumke opening) are playing 2 shows at Fez on Saturday the 9th. I'm probably going to both shows. Kristen Hersh is playing at The Knitting Factory on Friday and Saturday, but I don't know how available tickets are. I'm wondering whether to order it... I'm not that crash-hot on any of the artists, really, but it might be interesting to hear Shawn Colvin cover "The Chain", if nothing else... sherlyn ps - saw Michelle Shocked last night - she rocked. She seems to be having a pretty emotional time of it lately! I might go and see her again later in the week, but probably not... =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= a+e=ig Sherlyn Koo - sherlyn@fl.net.au [Sydney, Australia] "This is the song that we are always just this side of singing..." - Peter Mulvey ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 28 Apr 1998 00:42:58 -0500 From: kerrywhite@webtv.net (kerry white) Subject: Re: crimson Hi, Yes, Beat and Disipline and also Starless and Bible Black or even Red. They liked most every piece but the whole thing got on their nerves. bye, KrW TV or not TV? That is the question.
