WOW! Of course, the crowd was small--twenty five or so, but I had several friends who'd been turned on to her by me. Jill and I also took Zoe, our baby, who will be a year old next month?? and she loved it. She directed the band with my pen and bounced up and down to the beat. She was very good and didn't screech (a new hobby) at all. To quote Eric, the band was tight and Lisa was cute and seemed nervous. She tried chit chat with the students between songs and an art student declared himself and was an idiot. Why is it that art students insist on making a presence wherever they go? I'm glad the artists I know have mellowed out or never had that trait at all. . . Oh well. She played a few new songs that she said would be on her new cd that she hopes to record this summer. Any other news on this Neal? We didn't get to talk to her much due to the baby and the selling of cd's. I've got a set list I could post if anyone wants. If anyone wants a recommendation on a non-ecto cd--try Neutral Milk Hotel's _In the Aeroplane over the Sea_ Jill heard about it from a misanthrope on the robyn hitchcock list (hosted by our own woj) and we've both become addicted. It's a reaction to reading anne frank and the music is really erratically beautiful and quirky and sad and skewed. It really is great. For some reason, I want to compare it to Veda Hille but can't. They both have me addicted and both are excellent but that's about it. Or is it? AH, to be able to put music into words. Well, I know it is a little bit after the thread itself, but I think I just saw the bestest music use in a commercial. In the TV ad for the new VW Beetle, they had The Orb's "Little Fluffy Clouds." (you know, the one with Ricki Lee Jones) I am actually surprised that VW was allowed to use it, sinc last I heard Ms Jones wasn't too pleased with the use of her voice. Very nice to hear something like that on TV. Looking forward to Land of the Blind this weekend!! I know *somebody* here can answer this question. :) I just watched a really really good movie on Showtime2, but I have no clue what it was. I don't have a directory of what's on that channel and the local TV Guide doesn't list the extra Showtime channels, and I turned this movie on *just* as the opening titles were ending. It's a European film starring the Swedish actor who played the professor in _Good Will Hunting_ (weird that I'd never heard of the guy before Sunday and now I've seen him in two movies in less than a week :) and an amazing Scottish actress named Emily Watson. The Watson character is a slightly mentally challenged woman who marries an oil rig worker, and they live on an island off of Scotland. The oil rig worker gets hurt, and he tells his wife to keep himself alive he wants her to take a lover and then tell him about it. She ends up prostituting herself to local sailors, and it all comes to a very bad end, but the final scene is rather hopeful. It was written and directed by Lars von Trier, and it looked like it was shot with one single hand-held camcorder with less-than-optimal editing equipment. So ... what movie did I just spend the last 2 1/2 hours of my life watching? Not many local shows on the schedule, though I keep running into her guitar player at Fletcher's.
