Hi Larry. Nice to see you here too. > > Hi Paul! The new Steve Poltz record is really nice; very ecto, very upbeat, filled with lilting, tuneful smiles. I'm helping Steve and his label put together a 'Living Room Tour" in conjunction with his upcoming national "commercial" tour supporting the release of "One Left Shoe," out on Mercury Records on March 17. The tour starts March 18, but dates are yet to be confirmed, depending on who will be having Livingroom Tour shows. I'm taking a bet that the list already knows all about the Livingroom Tour concept, but if I'm mistaken, then I'm sure Alan B. will gladly post his "capsule" description. It's just what it sounds like. If anyone on this list can host 30 people at 5 bucks a head and would like to host Steve Poltz in a Living Room setting, PLEASE email me with your location and telephone number, as soon as possible. The Poltz team would like to have the tour set up by the end of this week, and they are OPEN to good possibilities, of which I am sure this list can offer many! You won't regret it! A friend of mine who lured me back into that evil IRC addiction a few weeks ago had never even heard of the concept of hostile takeovers or evil bots that had so plagued my last experience with the medium. Perhaps the world IS becoming a better, more ectoish place. normally trying to avoid showing off his ignorance, Tom Mink ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 18 Feb 1998 23:19:29 -0500 From: "Jeffrey C. I don't remember seeing anything posted here about her yet, but maybe I missed it while skimming. Anyway, she gets a good review at http://george.scranton.com/kamilyle.html , and there are March tour dates posted on her home page at http://home1.gte.net/jmg/kami/bmc.index.html . I have ordered a copy of her album based on what I've heard about her. Sounds interesting! It really depends on what network you're on. I participate regularly in a semi-public IRC channel for fans of Eleanor McEvoy and it's a great resource; we even had Eleanor in for an online chat a couple of months ago. My main problem is in convincing people that text-based real-time communication remains valid in the late 90s. People look at me like I'm some sort of Luddite. :) Take care, Chris ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 18 Feb 1998 23:18:03 -0600 (CST) From: "Mitchell A. Pravatiner" Subject: Real time WRT the recent bit of IRC nostalgia in these pages: I too miss the real time chat and cameraderie we used to have on our channel, and would love to see it revived. The ecto complex on the TinyCWRU MUSH is still there, notwithstanding that we don't use it much. Since one has to (optimally) get one's own character on a MU*, this filters out some of the casual jerk traffic, and so eliminates that problem. As it happens, I am associated with a couple of new MOOs, which would love to have good new people on board, especially if they bring good new building. If there is a modicum of sentiment for building an ecto area on any of them I will be pleased to put the wizards in touch. No matter what, any of you who wish to join up individually will be welcomed with open arms. I always kind of hate to say anything without letting stuff have time to settle for me (which can take anywhere from days to years, depending on when the second time I listen to a disc is!), but I have listened to the Kami Lyle disc once. Dan, I can't believe you weren't carefully studying all my "now playings" and associated comments. I spoke of her there twice. Anyway, I bought the disc used and cheap on a CD spree when Brad was visiting. It had a cover very reminiscent of a Jewel glamour shot, like for the Precious Games single. Despite that, I picked it up and looked at it. Generally, it looked uninteresting (not an album review, just my initial reaction), but browsing through the book, I saw her posed with a trumpet, which she actually plays throughout the disc. This was intriguing enough to win me over. My first impression (which is all I have right now), is that it was pretty bland pop, occasionaly vearing into pretty bland jazz-pop. It may yet grow on me, but so far it seems pretty unremarkable. (I do recall seeing someone else post that they liked it though.) I don't recall seeing whatever comment you are referring to, but perhaps the financial struggle that Sheeba is in the middle of, and the fact that Jane has had to reduce her operations to just herself and Peoria, might contribute to any communication problems you've had. or maybe not. She asked me about them, and naturally I turn here (and the web, but I'm betting that Andrew or Sherlyn can do better). First up was My Friend The Chocolate Cake, which had a fair amount of web info on them. Personal thoughts? Are discs available outside of Australia? The Bluehouse, which I found was a trio with an ep, who sounded like a lot of fun. Lastly, was either an album name or group - Ruby Fruit Juice. I couldn't find a thing on this. Ring any bells? Thanks for any info, raving, or recommendations. Neal np: well, you know by now.... my posts are getting back to me in record time.
