In fact, I got the sense from her chatter that the two had no blood ties whatsoever. Perhaps there's just some psionic link between McKeowns. As for the Nudes, it's good to know they're not defunct, just on hiatus. Never. :) Hehe. Okay, let's see - Lisa McCormick. Never seen her play (yet), but I have her album "Right Now", which is on Rising Records, 1996, produced by Jonathan Edwards. I picked the album up on the strength of a rave on the Christine Lavin web site and it hooked me from the first few seconds in... About Lisa herself - I think she's from Vermont, and I seem to also have a recollection of reading somewhere that she's an English teacher. She's a *fantastic* songwriter with some very interesting things to say - sort of a Gen X folkie's take on modern life, everything from being bored to the way telecommunications has become part of family life to speculation about all the things that are happening around the world Right Now. I can't recommend her album highly enough! She's a lyricist to rival Dar Williams or Carrie Newcomer - she really has a knack for turning a phrase. The music is nicely arranged and produced by Jonathan Edwards too - there's some pretty catchy stuff on here. If you like wry folk-type music, I'd say definitely go buy this album, yep. Enough raving? I think Lisa's great, in case you didn't figure. :) I'll write up a Guide entry for her real soon, I think (I'm so slack)... Hopefully when I make it out to the US again I'll get to see her play. In any case I'm looking forward to seeing what she does next. Speaking of doing things next, Paul Kim didn't break the news that apparently Susan Werner has signed to Bottom Line Records and will be putting her next album out in April or May! Sorry if you were saving the announcement Paul. :) Also, Patty Larkin will possibly be bringing out a live album sometime this year, and Cheryl Wheeler's next album will be out Real Soon Now too. Yeah! It's gonna be another great year of music for me. >McCormick opening. And I already enjoy seeing the Kennedys. How about >Anne Hills? Well, apparently there are two bands named Whirligig, because I saw the celtic one play at First Night '97. That's the version of Whirlygig which includes Greg... err... Anderson who has played guitar and bouzouki with Susan McKeown and the Chanting House a few times. I don't know just where they're based out of. New St. George *was* a DC-area group; Whirligig is a NYC group, kind of Irish-fusion, and Lisa took over from Shannon Anderson as vocalist. So, the celtic/Irish connection probably comes more from her New St. George- related connections, but Lisa picking up the Whirligig role suggests British Isles/Irish/celtic music - trad. & contemporary arrangements - continues to be one of her interests & involvements. - --- off to take advantage of our unseasonable & beautiful January weather here in Chicago ... celebrate by going to ... a record store!!! ...
