In the Jan. 1990 issue in a column about up and comers called 'getting signed' mixed in with Animotion, and hair bands Warrant and Pretty Boy Floyd I find a review of none other than Vonda Shepard. Here's a bit of what they said... "Vonda Shepard has so much going for her that it's downright unfair. She is gorgeous, she can sing the birds out of the trees, she writes beautiful songs, and as if all that weren't enough, she is as sweet as can be in person. I mean, save some for the rest of us, girl! Fortunately she is generous with her gifts, as her self-titled debut album for Warner Bros. demonstrates. If there's any justice in the world, her album will go mega-platinum; then she will be elected Goddess of All Earth, and our troubles will be over." I think they kinda liked her... n.p. Kasia Kowalska - Gemini (which reminds me, anyone in europe want to work a deal to get me Kasia's other two CDs?) - -- ++ -dave- ++ + irc.Dal.net #Panic_Beach + + Maria McKee/Grey Eye Glances/Lisa Loeb + ++ ++ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 31 Dec 1997 23:17:17 -0500 From: "Robert Lovejoy" Subject: Top 10 But Oui, 10 - "Our Lady of the Stream of Consciousness", Rustic Christmas Elves - Has more bite than their follow up, "Morpheus Takes A Cab" 9 - "Alone", Marx Bros. from "A Night at the Opera" - Anyone ever see the real ending of the famous stateroom scene? 8 - "Dial Tone" , The Phone Company. Perfect minimalism. 7 - "I Love It, I Got It At Ross" - Ann Onymous . Commercial, but what a Hook! 6 - "Bweepfzqkthzzzt" - Modem Connect Noise. I listen to this one every day! 5 - "Theme From Monkey Island", Guybrush Threepwood. For the kids. 4 - "Rattling Garbage Can Lids", The Trashmen. Now this is music! A mite percussive for some tastes, not the usual ecto-fare, but has been mentioned here before... 3 - "Ozone Symphony", Bob Lovejoy. Had to put something of my own in, even though I haven't written it as yet. 2 - "Hate Mail", the EctoFolk. What I'm likely to get after y'all read this... 1 - "The New Happy Rhodes Album", Happy Rhodes. Bound to really be the best music made this year. Oh well, one in ten. Happy New Year to each of you, forgive me, and enjoy the coming Guaranteed Annual Year! Bob Lovejoy ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V3 #122 **************************
