Prime's entry page is at: http://www.primecd.com The lyrics are linked from Susan's page:: http://www.primecd.com/susan.htm (comments/suggestions appreciated) - --------------------------------------------------------------- Second - I seem to have been in a state of holiday music while working on the update (due to a stop at Borders Books & Music). My musical tastes tend toward female voices - altho I'm not certain they *all* always qualify as "ecto" , so I rarely run on about recordings by male voices. Tonight I found myself quite entranced by another of Susan McKeown's holiday projects: the CD accompanying Thomas Moore's "the Soul of Christmas". The total Thomas Moore project is, I believe, to be another book in his inspirational/new age/whatever series on 'the soul', a television program to be broadcast on PBS during pledge period at the beginning of December, and this CD set. Entitled "the Soul of Christmas: a Celtic Music Celebration with Thomas Moore", it is one of the 'spiffy' (read: $21) efforts - 2 CDs and a CD-sized hardbound book. The book and one CD contain Moore's thoughts and anecdotes. The other CD contains a fascinating set of 14 somewhat more traditional holiday songs/carols than Susan's "Through the Bitter Frost and Snow", arranged and produced by Johnny Cunningham. The masculine voice which entranced me is Liam Tiernan. And ecto contributions come from: Susan McKeown, Nikki Matheson, Cathie Ryan, and Mary Fahl (October Project). ... then there's Kathy Mattea (with guitar by Dougie MacLean) .... although I understand Fahl's part is sung by Jane Siberry on the televised version - and Iris Dement appears on the televised version as well. I've not listened to it enough to provide insightful and precise comments on the voices and arrangements and how they 'worked' for me, but - tracks/musicians are: 1. God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman (vocal: Liam Tiernan) 2. Jesus Christ, The Apple Tree (vocals: Susan McKeown, Nikki Matheson) 3. In Dulci Jubilo (vocal: Liam Tiernan, Cathie Ryan) 4. We Three Kings (haunting instrumental) 5. Silent NIght (vocal: Liam Tiernan) 6. It Came Upon a Midnight Clear (vocal: Cathie Ryan) 7. I Saw Three Ships/Bells No Bills (vocal: Johnny Cunningham) 8. In the Bleak Midwinter (vocal: Liam Tiernan) 9. Lo, How a Rose (vocals: Susan McKeown, Nikki Matheson) 10. The Holly and the Ivy (vocal: Liam Tiernan) 11. Lully, Lullay (vocal: Mary Fahl) 12. In Excelsis Deo 13. Remember O Thou Man (vocal: Liam Tiernan) 14. Christ Child's Lullaby (vocal: Kathy Mattea) (I also haven't read the 'book' yet) Regards, Carolyn Andre - ------------------- Chicago, IL / USA | Support Independent Music!
