Also, the new Jonatha Brooke album, 10 CENT WINGS, is well worth checking out. I was blown away by it. ______________________________________________________________________________ Jason Carter The opposite of war isn't peace, carterj@email.uah.edu it's creation. -Jonathan Larson, RENT ______________________________________________________________________________ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 12 Nov 1997 22:01:53 -0500 (EST) From: AURALG@aol.com Subject: 2 cents RE: Yngvie's Anne Marie Whatshername: Isn't that like saying Picasso shouldn't have used a particular color ? Who are these people and their self important two cents ? There are no formulas just artistic choices. What's the point ? There's alot of things I think people should or shouldn't do in their art, only because I have different tastes, or a different perception, but works or doesn't work ?????.....C'mon. That shit really gets under my skin. (Obviously) What's the process where someone says, "I think I'll do this, because it won't work here".? It's only creativity, experimentation, judgment, expression and abilities. There is no right or wrong, works or doesn't. Unless you need there to be. I've been recently working on a sound a like version of the Beatles, "Revolution" for a broadcast client. I headphoned the original from Past Masters 2..............I've never heard a messier piece of bad recording, noise, punch ins, punch outs, tuning snafus and crap in my life. I've always loved the song and never ever thought twice about it. and I'm a very good listener.......knowImsayn ? Still love the song and if asked would say it's great !!! a classic, go enjoy it's energy and intent. Enjoy it's abandon. Boy I gotta get off this soapbox.........maybe cut down on the caffine too ! Anyway with that tirade off my chest.........We've got some pretty cool news to unleash on the world this Friday. Happy in your town ? Finally ? (Annapolis is a very nice place, though I thought I was going to be playing the Acropolis.) The show was sold out, but I thought I could score tix on the street. A very orderly bunch of people had a similar idea, and we got what showed up in order. After 8 or 10 people had tickets, I was left outside by myself. About a half hour to showtime, a tall British guy came over and asked me if I was looking for tickets. I said yeah. Then he asked my name and where I was from. Neal from Baltimore was my reply. When he wanted to know my last name, I got somewhat suspicious, but then he said he'd have to know my last name to put me on the guest list! Turned out it was Richard's manager. He said that they like to give away guest list spots to desperate fans rather than see them get wasted, so I got in free! Amusingly enough, someone came up to the box office trying to return a ticket while I was getting my comp'ed one :) Then they screwed up my bill (for a measly coke), and never came back with a new one, so that would have been free too but I just paid for it. Oh, the show was great too, but that was pretty much a given. Since I caught the early show, I had plenty of time to head to the Ottobar in Baltimore on my way home, where I saw all female Japanese punk band Lolita No. 18 play a lively and hilarious set on their first ever US tour. Not that I'd ever heard of them before. They were a very cartoony punk band, but were having the time of their lives. As well as their own pretty much incomprehensible songs, they played covers of Summertime Blues and Hang On Sloopy. I think more than half the 40 or so people there bought discs. I got their latest, Hige Ninja (Sue, what's Hige mean?), which I haven't listened to yet. Then the Inevitable Expanding Man from NYC plugged himself into a vacuum cleaner and filled up the stage, while pop music blared, strobe lights flashed, and he took polaroids of the audience. That is, until his partner popped him. Headliners Mecca Normal never showed up. And today, I called Orion Studios, since I'd never heard of the place and they are listed on the Project Lo tour schedule. They are in an odd corner of Baltimore, and if anyone out there is interested in going, write me and I'll give you directions. I got a very friendly guy on the phone to answer my questions. I started with "Do you guys do concerts there?", to which he replied "not really, but we occasionally have showcases." SO I asked about he Project Lo show, and he said that was on Saturday. Then the biggie, are they open to the public. Well, they aren't advertised, but if you know about the show, you are welcome to come. So, there you have it. I'll definitely be there, for the music and the chance to learn of this bizarre hidden showcase. Who knows who else shows up and plays there?
