I'm not aware of this, unless their "second" album counts. That was put together after the band's demise and consists of singles, B-sides and so on from the same era as "Fist of a Million Kisses". I think it was called "Aye Fond Kiss" or some such similar title. Ecto-mama Vickie should be able to confirm that! > Anyone listen to Eddi Readers new album "Mirmama"? It's not exactly "new", having been released several years ago (1992), but I can thoroughly recommend it. It has more of a band feel to it than her later, solo, records but isn't poppy like the two Fairground Attraction albums. It could be my favourite Eddi Reader album. Hope that helps! When they did play here in Molde I gave her and VB a copy of Warpaint, cause I sortta thought this was something they would like. I was right!! They really like the album especially the Happy's music and voice. She did comment that in some places the lyrics didn't work that well. Anne Marie is a very good lyricist, so it is not strange that she notices things like that. Nothing more about an american release yet ... They are still working hard to get released in Europe, and they hope that will work out in not too long, but these are all old news (wrote this to the list not very long ago) Just thought you would like to know :) *hugs* Yngve - -- n.p. They'll be at the Orpheum with Tanya Donnelly and Tara McLean on 12/2 (sold out) and I just heard the Chicago show was announced with Bjork and Sarah MacLachlan (tix on sale Monday).... Laura ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 11 Nov 1997 12:10:34 -0500 From: biscotti and borscht Subject: ectopics hey ho all, as meredith mentioned, the move went fairly smoothly a couple weekends ago. the boxes remain piled high in the dining room cum staging area, but we're making progress: there's over half the floor visible now, where before there was merely a narrow footpath between the two doors. if anyone needs the new postal address for their records, drop me or meth a line. oh, the cats are finally de-traumatized, paul. they weren't too pleased for the first couple days, but they came around and seem to like the new place now. they even have forgiven us, after we bribed them with large amounts of wet food. paul blair sez about project lo: >A lot of the rest of the album is pleasant enough but not really my >thing--tracks that are all introduction or transition without ever getting >on the road. Is this what they call "ambient"? i have to agree. about half of the non-happy tracks are tediously boring. i'm not a real big fan of the flamenco-ish picking style bon lozaga use fairly often. i'm generally not too attracted to song structures, but, oddly enough, i find the best tracks on here to be the ones which *do* go somewhere. i rather fancy the tracks which feature percy jones on bass (surprise, surprise). joyce sez: >I know what you mean about teenage angst, but This Fire seems to have a >lot more of that, at least to me. All that snarling and repetitive yelling. i still need to listen to _this fire_ some more -- the lyrics really haven't settled in yet. on "cowboys", though, she seems to have more neglected wife angst than teenage angst...though i suppose the two are not mutually exclusive. >I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on this! :-) in traditional ecto style! irvin sez: > all i can say about paula is that at least she isn't singing into >that silly mask of hers, nor stomping on cookie sheets. hey! i liked the cookie sheet thing! banging on things is good! bam! bam bam! > ps. who has heard the new IVY album? not me. not yet. will soon, i hope. details? >the new IDA CD is fantastic by the way. agree 110%! don keller and i made it to the new york city record release party and it was a stunning show (i posted a review back whenever it happened). the record is beautiful, autumnal, introspective. >has anyone got the new TSUNAMI? it's good, but in a different way from _the heart's tremelo_ -- less subtle, more dense sound. jenny's liquid guitar-playing is still there, but it's farther down in the mix now. there have been some band changes and i think they were still gelling while the record was being made. still, a thumb's up. >new Lisa Loeb in november (lisa played with the IDA gang, way back when). ye gods! > i was wondering if anyone can give me the low down on the new >SIBERRY CD's that have been released, recently, both of which i have not >heard very much about on ecto. don't have _child_ yet, though it has been mailordered. i was hoping it would be delivered before the move, but it hasn't been. i imagine that is the reason for the delay, as opposed to problems with the postal system. meredith and i were at one of the christmas shows and it was *wonderful*. not too much of the jazz thing, mostly just a combination of obscure and not-so-obscure traditional seasonal music and a fair number of jane's originals. i *strongly* suspect that you'll enjoy this one, irvin. due to the arrangements with reprise which allowed the the trilogy of live shows to be released, _child_ will eventually be available in stores, but i'd still bite the bullet and call 1-888-3-sheeba and order it. _a day in the life_ is more aural cut-up art than anything else. it's interesting and i'm glad i have it, but i doubt i'll listen to it more than a couple times. dave schultz sez: >Longhouse.....one a cappella song...the rest kind of popish, but neat. >Kindness of strangers....Hmmmm I like them, anyone else? hmmm. i have that on tape somewhere -- someone sent me a dub many years ago, but i don't remember what i thought of it. not really sure where that tape is right now, else i'd dig it out and listen. sherlyn sez: >And in particular (hey meth), has >anyone heard her rendition of Dar Williams' "February". heard it on the mountain stage show which featured the whole gang: joan, dar, and richard shindell too. rather liked it (we recorded it, if you need a copy, sherlyn). joan's cover of richard's "fishing" is also quite good. she sings it much too high for richard to follow along, but he makes a valiant and amusing effort. irvin sez: > anyway. her latest "new" CD is CANDYFLOSS AND MEDICINE which i >actually have not gotten around to getting. i hear it is pretty good, i've listened to eddi reader's latest a number of times and like it. it's a deceptive album, very subduded. the first couple listens were disappointing since the first track is so wonderful, but the rest of the album is relatively mellow and not terribly involving. more listens though have proven it quite nice and rewarding in the long run. i believe charley darbo gushed massively about this album a month or so ago. steve fagg sez: >I think it was called "Aye Fond Kiss" or some such similar title. _ay fond kiss_, actually. jeff sez in reply to paul: >> isn't there some sort of law against Jeff W having a monopoly on the cool >> lists or something? > >Smoe.org is more than me, although I am the brains behind the >operation (-: yep. i'm just the mindless adminstrative bureauocrat. ;) woj n.p. tsunami -- a brilliant mistake ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 11 Nov 1997 13:10:15 -0800 (PST) From: "J. It probably was me. I got curious too, and called the Hear Music in Palo Alto. They say they're not in any way affiliated with Hear's Music in Tucson, although they have 4 or 5 stores in California, one in Chicago, and have just sold a franchise to someplace in Canada (didn't specify where). Oh, and I did ask if there ever *was* a connection to the Tucson store (since you said you didn't ask that), and she said nope, never. I don't think she'd ever heard of the Hear's in Tucson. (And I think she thought I was a bit weird to call just about that. :-)) The Bay Area store is definitely called *Hear* Music (no apostrophe, no s). So I guess it's just a coincidence that two unrelated stores have very much the same format and focus, and almost identical names.
