[isometric plaything Subject: Sarah Slean & Tara in MO Hey all, been a while since I've had the chance to say hi to you all =) I just wanted to share some much needed excitement with you all that I had today. A while back my good friend Gian was kind enough to send me an autographed copy of Sarah Slean's EP which is awesome. I liked it so much that I decided to write her a letter to let her know that we are hearing and supporting her down here in the states.....and well......today I got a letter back from Sarah =D She seemed very encouraged at what I had written and said that we "rock her world." :-) Just thought those of you who are fans might appreciate this little excerpt from her letter: "Gian and the whole gang give me that warm fuzzy feeling inside, they make me feel appreciated.......I am recording on the first of November herein Toronto so stay tuned! I can hardly wait to play the gorgeous grand piano.......Piano's have soul you know, and this one smells divine... I should be finished with 2 more EP's before the end of '97, and a full-length will probably start summer '98. I am finally going to trek over to my friendly southern neighbors (USA) sometime, so I hope to see you then." Just thought you all would appreciate the words of an up and comer that loves us and our support. I was ecstatic when I got the letter =) Anyhow, I was thinking of the REMOTE possibility of driving up to MO to see Tara open for Dar in Columbia on the 22nd and wanted to know if there was anyone who is going...if so E me please and let me know. Thanks for listenin..... I just got this on the BMG (UK) new releases bulletin this morning. Don't you just *LOVE* clued-up record companies? ;-) Thanks to Martin Bridges I already have a copy of the US release. I quite like it so far: it's a worthy successor to "Solace" IMO but "FTE" remains in a class of its own, a real Desert Island Disc for me! TTFN Seve > She's from Vancouver. I was in HMV Oxford Circus yesterday and they already have 'Surfacing'. In fact, it is already in their current sale (2 CDs for 22pounds or 12.99 each). Not sure if the smaller shops will have it, but it is out there. Didn't check to see if there was anything different about the UK release. So, it will receive zero promotion and will most likely vanish without trace. However, does the fact that there will be some promotion in February suggest the glimmer of a hope of a possibility that there may be a tour??? We can but dream. OK, back to over-worked lurk mode. I know what you mean about teenage angst, but This Fire seems to have a lot more of that, at least to me. All that snarling and repetitive yelling. > i never really understood why > pretension could be a bad thing until seeing her play. ugh. she's gotten > better, but she's still pretty affected. Hm - I think just the opposite, that's she's gotten *more* affected. I saw her for the first time in Dec. 1994, and then again in '95, and her presentation back then was relatively simple. A little twitchy and ticky maybe (that thing with slapping her leg, etc), but it didn't strike me as pretentious. By the time Lilith Fair came around, she had this whole boring aerobic-dancing thing as part of her show, and I didn't see the point. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on this! :-) Joyce ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 28 Oct 1997 20:50:21 -0500 (EST) From: isometric plaything Subject: Re: moments / stagnation / ye olde booke o' secretes > on a completely unrelated note, does anyone else find they go through > cycles of *not* listening to music much? i mean, two years ago i *always* > had something playing, often even while i was falling asleep. now i find i > usually am *not* listening to anything. I always have something playing... it's weird.. the only times I'm not listening to music is when I'm watching TV or alseep. Though I do go through small periods where I won't listen to anything... those only last about a day at most though. :) n.p.
