Break it to me gently... Lilith Fair preview? Well, Lilith Fair is going ahead next year - that's pretty much been said publicly by everyone. As for a preview... she is about to start her Surfacing tour, but I don't think it's intended as a preview of anything. I don't know of any Florida dates, as only dates until December 1 have been confirmed. (other dates may be rumoured, but they won't go up on the Nettwerk web site until they have been totally 100% confirmed) The URL for tour dates is: http://www.sarahmclachlan.com/cgi-bin/smtour.dates >On a nearly-unrelated note, what is the name of the singer who backed up >Sarah on the FTE tour (at least in Chicago)? What has she done >recording-wise? Camille Henderson was on the FTE tour; I assume for all of it. She's still Sarah's backup vocalist (that was her on the MuchMusic I&I and the Rosie O'Donnell show) and did the Lilith Fair dates. In terms of her other stuff... I'm fairly certain she was part of the local pop outfit West End Girls in a previous life, but it's 2:30 AM and there's nobody else in the office to ask and I feel I may be wrong. :) More recently she did the vocals and lyrics for Duende, off Delerium's Karma - a good showcase for her carrying the song, not just doing backup. - Neil K. - -- 49N 16' 123W 7' + Nettwerk Productions + (604) 654-2929 Vancouver, BC, Canada + nkg@nettwerk.com Technical Services - bringing that attitude to a desktop near you ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 02 Oct 1997 07:27:51 +0000 From: Jerene Subject: Query My friend Marc wonders if anyone knows the name of a group of 5-ish female engineering students from Berkeley (to the best of his recollection) who were featured on one of those Discovery Channel future-tech shows a few years ago. They engineered different musical instruments and, in particular, a beach ball that was thrown around in the audience and transmitted data on physical variables (like pressure) that made different sounds. Does anyone know the name of the group and if they made any recordings? You'll find Project Lo/Black Canvas in The Artist Shop at . I don't know if it's making it's way into the retail stores, but I've got it. You'll find a link to ordering instructions at the bottom of the page. Hope that helps. I really like D'Cuckoo - never seen them live but have a couple of CD's; one from an SGI developer's conference, and one "real" release called "Umoja". Kinda percussion-oriented, rap-influenced, semi-techno in sound; I didn't place them from Jerene's description so I'm not sure if that's who she has in mind; they are more than four, and their members change a bit, but there are several core members. A couple of the members have played one of my wife Janet Dunbar's compositions locally - it was a good experience. They played Djembe, Marimba, and Vibes. I remember reading about it/hearing about it at a time when I was just discovering some of the neat things you can do with MIDI. I think ther might have been an article in Wired magazine, if not something in the SF Chronicle. So Jerene, is that whom you were thinking of?
