I really missed it. Last Saturday (August 30) is went to WXRV's Riverfest 1997, a free concert at City Hall Plaza in Boston. The featured performers were Leah Andreone, Jill Sobule, Susannah Hoffs, and Dar Williams. It was a super show. Leah Andreone was an entertaining opener. She played with a four piece band, and actually reminded me a little of Sara Craig. Jill Sobule played solo with her electric guitar. She is a delightful performer! She took requests from the audience and told wonderful little stories. After her set I was able to chat with her and she said they were hoping to release a live album of her material. Next up was Susannah Hoffs, who performed 2 of her own songs, and 7 Bangles songs! She played acoustic guitar with a guy on acoustic accompanying her. It was actually a little embarassing when she started "Eternal Flame" and "Walk Like an Egyptian." I had thought she was going for a more serious musical repertoire, but I guess I was mistaken. Dar ended the show with the first performance for an audience with her new band. It consisted of her and Richard Shindell on acoustic guitar, and an electric guitar, drums and cellist as accompaniment. The sound was a little rough and the performance a little choppy (as was expected for a first time) but overall pretty good. Dar sounded great, and I'm looking forward to seeing her and Richard in a couple weeks. All-in-all it was like a mini-Lilith Faire in Boston, and a very enjoyable time. Glad to have you all back! C'mon, c'mon! I recently ordered a Tara MacLean t-shirt from Nettwerk.. after about a month I e-mailed them to see what was up.. got a note back saying they had to wait 3-4 weeks for my check to clear (funny, I sent an international money order like their web site said to..) and I'd be getting the shirt in about 2 weeks.. when I finally did get it it was way too big even though I ordered the size I normally wear... oh, and it came with a catalog that says it has to be an international money order drawn on a Canadian bank.. now they tell me.. So anyone ordering anything from them... use a credit card.. and get your shirt a size smaller than normal.. Oh.. and welcome back ecto.. and gee.. was that a Paula Cole poster on Tom Arnold's daughter's bedroom wall on his new show? Yup.. sure was. - -- ++ -dave- ++ + irc.Dal.net #Panic_Beach + + IRCs Maria McKee channel + ++ ++ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 8 Sep 1997 18:13:15 -0500 (CDT) From: Michael Curry Subject: Re: Riverfest '97 On Mon, 8 Sep 1997, Michael Colford wrote: > I was mistaken. Sounds like a good show! :) I guess this is an appropriate spot to ask which ectophiles will be making the trek to Northampton next week to catch one (or more) of the three "Darfest" shows? I am going to be there all three nights, and I know woj, Meredith and Jeff will be there for the Wednesday show. Anyone else? Herewith, a few comments, suggestions and questions. Does the new list server have a "set nomail" option for vacations and the like? That would make things easier, especially since the subscribing process is now a bit more involved due to the need to send confirmations. What has become, and/or will become, of the ecto archives now on ecto.org? I think there should be a concerted effort to get all the posts that never made it into digest form, prior to the beginning of the smoe.org digest, into the archives, as well as the posts from any other period in ecto history when the digesting function was dysfunctioning. No, the current version of majordomo doesn't support the concept of nomail. You have to unsubscribe. I'm sorry about the confirmation process, but the internet has become a nastier place these days, and it's sad, but mailing lists can be an intimidating weapon. How would you like to check your mail one morning and find that someone put you on a few hundred busy lists? > > What has become, and/or will become, of the ecto archives now on ecto.org? > I think there should be a concerted effort to get all the posts that > never made it into digest form, prior to the beginning of the smoe.org > digest, into the archives, as well as the posts from any other period in > ecto history when the digesting function was dysfunctioning. The archives will move to smoe.org eventually, as will the ecto guide. It will take a while, as I'm moving in 2 weeks, and after that I'll probably be out of the country again... - -jeff ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 08 Sep 1997 23:09:14 -0400 From: dee zed stroke zero one five Subject: Re: Offloading also sprach Mitchell A.
