So glad ecto is back--I've misssed it! I am especially jazzed to hear that Susan McKeown is going to have another CD and that Richard Shindell already does! "Reunion Hill" was one of my favorites when I saw him open for Dar here. I have several new acquisitions--Mila Drumke "Illinois"--wonderful! and Dar's "End of the Summer." I loved her live but didn't expect to like this very much because I don't listen to The Honesty Room, her first, very often. But EotS is different, better, wonderful, and it was on sale at Border's in Albuquerque, which is why I gave it a try. I also got Merrie Amsterberg's Season of Rain by mistake. Some goof had switched it w/ Tara McLean in the listening station, so I thought I was loving Merrie but it was Tara. Fortunately, Borders took care of it on my next swing thru central New Mexico. Borders is the hugest treat I can imagine. I don't get to go to one very often. Oddly enough, though, Tara's work isn't as exciting on repeated listenings, so far, while Dar's sounds better every time. so I have lots to keep me entertained (important given that we have no live music to speak of in this burg), and am impatiently awaiting my Veda Hille order--check sent off to Canada nearly 3 weeks ago. C'mon, c'mon! It only took a week and half for the Drumke CD, and two days to get Dar's EP with Shindell's Nora on it (what the hey, the 800# was in End of the Summer). cheers, Kelley n.p. Wermont) Subject: Maggie Estep Glad this list is back!! I just wanted to thank the folks who posted here about Maggie Estep. Based on what I read here about her, I went out and bought the CD "Love is a Dog From Hell," and I love it! My favorites are: Stalk Me, I'm an Emotional Idiot (brilliant!), and I Want Mangoes. Also really enjoy the story about Jennie's shirt with the Eiffel towers painted on it. I recently found out that she has a previous album called "No More Mr. Nice Girl." Has anyone heard that one? Is it anything like the second one? And is it available?? I haven't been able to find it. Sounds like the reaction at last year's RMFF. That was the first time Laura Love and band played in Colorado, and she converted quite a few! (She's also returned three times since... yay!) Saturday was the highlight day for this year's Rocky Mountain Folks Fest - -- at least for me. (Hi Greg -- good to meet another Ectophile!) I missed a good chunk of Sunday because I was getting in line early for the Nanci Griffith E-town taping in Boulder, so I ditched some of David Wilcox's set on Saturday to attend Dee Carstensen's workshop. Wow! She's always amazing, and I like her new cd, The Map. That Saturday was the first time I'd seen Eddie from Ohio, and I was impressed. That band was my personal find of the weekend. Initially, they reminded me of the Nields, but since the Nields played later that day, I was able to realize that both groups are very distinct. It was a joy to hear Catie Curtis with a band. Jimmy Ryan played mandolin with her, as he has been recently, and two of the Nields's Daves joined on drums and bass. Great to see Ecto back!!
