It was awesome, I think >the dj said it was a rare recording. Am i right? The song was called >"That's Just what you Are". If anyone wants a copy, let me know... That would be "That's Just the Way You Are." Great song, but I'd hardly call it rare. It's on the _Melrose Place_ soundtrack, and was also released a single. Being an absolute idiot, I didn't buy the single because the single was backed with a track from _Whatever_ and also had a note saying that the song would be on the new Aimee Mann album. Of course, that was something like a year ago and _I'm With Stupid_ still hasn't been released in the US. "That's Just the Way You Are" got quite a bit of airplay in the DC-Baltimore area...it's that pseudo-semi-local-girl thing. Basically, you can download the 30 second samples and play it all you want, but the RealAudio file is locked away behind a url, unaccessable without the use of the RealAudio software. What's the problem? Well, for starters, those with only shell accounts (and no slip/ppp/(etc) access) miss out. That's enough to make me grumpy. But it would seem (and since I haven't been able to use the RA software so I don't know for sure) anytime you want to hear it you have to connect to Atlantic's site. While it does pad Atlantic's stats (which we are all sure to see before too long), it means that you can't play it at your leisure from a machine that is capable, but lacks a net.connection. That is of course, unless the RA player lets you access the document and download the file instead of playing it. But I somehow doubt it would do that. If I'm wrong and someone has grabbed the RA file of CaLS and is willing to make it available for the underprivlidged, do let me know. ;) grrrr, bob ------------------------------ From: Neile Graham Date: Tue, 12 Dec 1995 10:52:58 -0800 (PST) Subject: Re: Maxell CD Catalog available on-line > not of interest to you. It sounds both different from Tori's old style and still just the same. In particular, I like her use of backing vocals on the song -- much more sophisticated, ala Kate's use of the Trio Bulgarka. Listening to the song (which I've been doing _alot_ today), I couldn't help but wonder where Tori wrote it. Did she sneak away to Taos again? This was also my first time to play with RealAudio 2.0. Yes--all it does it access the file, not download it. That's how they maintain control over the song I suppose. If the sound quality weren't already so bad I would try taping it from my computer speaker. But the song is worth hearing however you can do it.
