Susan; I for one, appreciate your line-up posts. Thanks to you I was made aware of Jewel's recent appearance on Conan O'Brien's Show. I had the pleasure of getting tickets and seeing the show live. I also had the chance to meet her afterwards and she was nice enough to sign a disc for me. She looked so much better in her street clothes exiting Rockefeller Center than she did on the show that I was very surprised. I also bumped into the "Foo Fighters" in the lobby, but not being too familiar with their work didn't attempt to engage them in conversation, just said hello, and let them be on their way. They seemed a little ticked that Jewel was attracting so much attention while they were pretty much being ignored by the small crowd that had gathered. Conan's show is cool in that there isn't much demand for the tickets, so when someone good is on you can usually get tickets the morning of the show. I managed to get to see and meet Tori Amos in much the same way when she did the show. Again, thanks very much Susan. Technically there are no U2 tracks on the soundtrack for IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER. There _are_ two tracks credited to Bono and Gavin Friday - "In The Name of the Father" and "Billy Boola." Since "Billy Boola" is a tongue-in-cheek 70s disco track, I would guess the song you're thinking of is "In The Name of the Father." I agree - it is an awesome song. It was perfectly placed in the movie, too. When the bombs went off and the drums started pounding and the pipes wailing, I instantly stopped being a person sitting in a movie theater and vanished into the film. Powerful! It's interesting that you should point out a Sinead song called "The Father and his Wife the Spirit." Is this an acquired-taste group or > do they have periods when they put out boring stuff and I didn't luck out > on this 1? maybe there's some kind of Murphy's law corollary here... i spent a bit of time looking for _Otherness_ because i knew i'd love it, and i do, but maybe if you just run across it you won't like it? sure enough, weeks after scraping for *one* copy i find piles of them in most every Tower i'm in. but more seriously, _Otherness_ is not a normal Cocteau Twins release, it's a remix ep, and the remixes were done by Seefeel at that, which makes them a little, um, weird. i won't even try to describe Seefeel beyond what someone else once said: "Slowdive meets the Orb." so _Otherness_ is pretty atypical, though still very Cocteau-flavored. as for CT in general... i sometimes felt that older CT sounded in some way like Siouxsie from the same time... early 80's. but it seems a subtle similarity and i've rarely found anyone to agree with me on this. but i think that overall the CT are on the mellow end of things, not soporific, at least to my ears, but perhaps an acquired taste. almost always layered and beautiful and little-l-lush, sweet and dreamy drown-me honey dew doo do you? Kerry, which eps did you listen to? if you still want to try some other CT you might try and find something from a different time... they've kindof wandered around stylistically over the years, though not as wildly as Siouxsie & the Banshees to be sure! capsule suggestions: _Treasure_ is usually considered their best album, and after that opinions vary... if you want less-soporific try _Heaven or Las Vegas_, _Blue-Bell Knoll_ or perhaps _Head over Heels/Sunburst and Snowblind_. and given that it's that time of year keep your eyes open for the CT covers of _Frosty the Snowman_ and _Winter Wonderland_. otherworldly! :) hugs and kisses and friday-wishes, veronica ------------------------------ From: Kerry White Date: Mon, 11 Dec 1995 16:38:30 -0600 (CST) Subject: Re: Cocteau Twins+vent steam at Murphy Hello, On Mon, 11 Dec 1995, Brian Bloom wrote: > > If you don't want it, I'll take it. ;) It only cost me $11 and I can't get more than $4 for it, if you wanna pay $4 plus postage, its yours!
