Heh, yea, right. Neal gave me the copy he found in the Spanish/Flamenco Music section at Planet Music in Baltimore! :) Those of you who are still looking for this disc can be assured that it is *really* worth the hunt -- there is some tremendously beautiful music on "The Keep," plenty of moments that will send chills up your spine! "That appearance was to be my swan song, until two things conspired to keep me in the business. First I heard about Brian [Blade], this great drummer from Schreveport, La., who wanted to play with me. and then Fred Walecki at Westwood Music in Los Angeles built me a prototype of this modified Stratocaster that hooks up to a digital Roland VG* unit. The VG* is basically a computerized brain with foot pedals into which are programmed a whole palette of sounds plus more than 30 songsworth of intricate tunings for the night at the Fez. This device has the capacity to hold all my tunings of all my songs, and what the audience basically heard at the Fez show was an improptu first live rehearsal jam between Brian and me. happily it turned out to be , including," she added with a laugh, "some of the wild experieces I may have slept through or blotted out from the '60s." .............. 'It's a whole new ballgame now for me," Mitchell told Billboard, "but it had to be, because I coudnt have gone on, considering the difficulties I was facing in getting the right quality of sound and presentation-I needed that level of delight again. Working in this duo form with a drummer as talented and melodic as Brian is a brand new musical romance for me, and one like a very few I've had in my career, so we're aiming to do more club appearances fairly soon in places like the Fez and the Viper Room in L.A. "I almost cancelled the Fez show just hours before I went on, maybe fearing it wouldn't work out. But happily ther were no boos when I plugged in my electric guitar instead of playing an acoustic. Actually, the Roland brain provides a sound beatifully suited to each song---like, for instance, the nylon-string tonality people are used to hearing on certain things. You also hear a freshness and distinctiveness thats almost orchestral it's so rich. I wanted to blow chords up the way Georgia O'Keefe blew up the flowers in her paintings, and now thats possible." This one is for You Were Meant For Me. It's not the album version, but is actual probably closer to the version she did on Conan's show earlier tonight: slightly faster paced and rhythmic. BTW, I saw it on VH-1 on their Crossroads show, just before the station went into infomercial. Crossroads actually seems to be relatively decent; they even had Jewel on one time before for a brief interview, subsequently showing her first video. I just wish I knew it was going to be on, so I could have set up the VCR. It's already got a tape in it from recording her appearance on Conan. But my only warning was her voice. Sort of. On Sunday, CBS broadcast a competition that had been taped in September. It was an outdoor skating event held in Sun Valley, Idaho. In the middle of it, there was a background thing on Sun Valley itself, with photo montages of various famous people who had visited SV over the decades. For the most part, there was no talking, just photos and music. The music was Victoria Williams' version of "What a Wonderful World"! At the end of the first part of the event, CBS ran a 30 minute tribute to the wonderful skater/human being/husband/father Sergei Grinkov, who died last week. At the end of that was a video montage of his life and career, skating with his beautiful wife Ekatarina Gordeeva, and playing with his adorable 3 year old daughter Daria. I was crying so hard that at first I didn't pay much attention to the music, and then I realized it was Sarah McLachlan's "I Will Remember You". It was a beautiful tribute, with no talking, just video clips and music. This was my first time of hearing her, and my first thought of the name was it was a band of guys that were going to be bad. Then I listened to it and she profoundly affected me! She sang "Feed the Fire", there was another girl singing with her harmony. Who was that? Anyone please tell me more about Happy Rhodes (starting with is that her real name? ), then does she play aninstrument, write her own songs, and have any correspondence with Kate Bush because during the song "Feed the Fire" she sang a lyric from one of kate Bush's songs "Running Up That Hill","'cause if I only could, I'd make a deal with G-d, and I'd get Him to swap our places..." The other girl singing harmony with Happy is . . . Happy. During some of her live shows she has performed with a backup vocalist named Kelly Bird, who also does backing vocals on one song on _Equipoise_, but the rest of the time, when it sounds like she's singing a duet with someone, she's multi-tracking her vocals. No one knows quite how she can make her voice do that but as long as it sounds that good we don't care :-). Yes, it's her real name. She was born Kimberly Tyler Rhodes but changed her first name to Happy as soon as she legally could. She plays guitar. She also seems pretty good at programming synthesizers. She writes her own songs. She's done a few covers but her album material is all hers. As far as I know she has had no personal contact with Kate Bush, although Happy does count Kate as a major influence. If Vickie sees your letter you'll probably be getting a copy of the Happy Rhodes FAQ soon. ------------------------------ From: "32 flavors...and then some" Date: Wed, 29 Nov 1995 20:16:48 -0500 Subject: european tori amos tour lukewarm off the presses: >Date: Tue, 28 Nov 1995 08:45:30 -0500 (EST) >From: rdt-ed@bsbbs.columbus.oh.us (RDT Fanzine Editor) >Subject: *** European Tour Dates *** > >Tori Amos 1996 World Tour > >Last Updated 11/28/95 > >February 1996 > >2/23 UK; Ipswitch, Regent Theatre >2/24 UK; Sheffield, City Hall >2/25 UK; Manchester, Apollo >2/26 OFF >2/27 UK; Edinburgh, Usher Hall >2/28 UK; Aberdeen, Capitol >2/29 UK; Glasgow, Royal Concert Hall > >March 1996 > >3/1 UK; Newcastle, City Hall >3/2 OFF >3/3 UK; Nottingham, Royal Centre >3/4 UK; Liverpool, Philharmonic >3/5 UK; Newcastle, City Hall >3/6 UK; Wolverhampton, Civic Hall >3/7 OFF >3/8 UK; London, Royal Albert Hall >3/9 OFF >3/10 OFF >3/11 OFF >3/12 UK; Bristol, Colston Hall >3/13 UK; Portsmouth, Guild Hall >3/14 OFF >3/15 Holland; Den Haag, Congresbouw >3/16 Holland; Amsterdam, Rai Congrescentrum >3/17 OFF >3/18 France; Paris, Grand Rex >3/19 Germany; Dusseldorf, Philipshalle >3/20 Germany; Hamburg, CCH1 >3/21 Belgium; Brussels, Royal Circus >3/22 Germany; Stuttgart, Beethovensaal >3/23 OFF >3/24 Germany; Frankfurt, Alte Opera >3/25 Germany; Berlin, Friedrichstadpalasat >3/26 Germany; Munich, Philharmonie > >Really Deep Thoughts -- rdt-ed@bsbbs.columbus.oh.us -- The Official >P.O. Is this part of the automation? Helpful Tip #12358314594370774156178538190: When taping from vinyl, spray water onto the lp, enough to drag a bead along at the needle. This will damp down all noise except the actual defects in the vinyl: dirt and static are gone. A *really* worn lp can benefit from a drop of mild dish-washing soap. Wet the lp and put the drop on your finger-tip and *gently* touch the revolving disc. This is a *bit* thicker, and is safe as long as it doesn't dry out. The high freqs will come thru fine. Rinse the lp when done and the cleaning will help it to 'live' a lot longer. KrW "Are you all sitty comftubole to squirm your botty?
