Do you have a hi-fi stereo VCR? If so, there's an easy solution to this. A lot of people don't realize that the VCR can be easily connected to your stereo or tuner to record audio only off the radio, or any audio source for that matter. You have the VCR's timer available to record the radio broadcast, 6 or 8 hours uninterrupted taping capacity, and the hi-fi audio tracks of a videotape are much better than a cassette; in fact, it's sometimes referred to as the "poor man's DAT (digital)". I do this all the time, then transfer the portion of the broadcast I want to keep onto a normal cassette...there's no detectable quality loss. The connections are easy to do. If anyone needs instructions let me know, and I'll e-mail or post them. Cheers! It is true that we terminated our arrangement with BMG and are working with an independent distributor, and it's also true that we couldn't be happier. Since it was perceived that becoming an "indie" artist would be a step back for a rising star like Paula, we made a deal for her with Warner Brothers, who, as you all know, are the premier artist-friendly major label. What the deal means is that Imago will be responsible for Paula's music, and Warner's will assume responsibilty for the marketing and distribution. WB has, in fact, just re-issued "Harbinger". It became available Oct 10 (collectors take note). Since Paula is off the road, after nearly three years on, don't expect retailers to stock this record very heavily. The good news, for Paula and her fans, myself included, is that she is commencing recording her second LP next month. We hope to have it "on the streets" by mid-1996. In the meantime, Paula just did VH1's "Duets" program with Melissa Etheridge. Air dates are Nov 22, 24, and 26. Also, look for "Sewanee Jo", a Paula demo included on the new "Blue in the Face" soundtrack, compiled by David Byrne, and available now on Luaka Bop/Warner Brothers. Please check out Paula's homepage, listed in the "ultimate band list". Brian Titus is a fan doing a great job, and I get him the latest info as soon as it's available. In much the same way that it was inappropriate to take Paula's career back to the indie level, so too Aimee. Aimee and Paula were originally together at Imago/Warner Brothers (Reprise), and July 11 was our release date for her latest "I'm With Stupid", which followed our ORIGINAL Imago/BMG date of April 11. At the eleventh hour, Geffen Records expressed their interest in working with Aimee. We gave Aimee the choice, and instead of choosing the WB 7/11 date, she chose to work with Geffen. Fine. But Geffen couldn't get it out until Jan 1996. So there we are. January 1996. Unfortunately, as you all know, magazines need several months "lead time", so you will see reviews from time to time, solicited by Imago or WB press departments for what we thought were firm release dates. Hey Jeff, you must be a little harder sell than I am. :) My experience with them was a bit different though and that may explain why I was hooked on them right off the bat. It was last summer I think that I got their first album the same day that I saw them open up for Sarah McLachlan. They didn't have the additional band members back then as Mary had mentioned the other nite, but I was damned impressed with them even with my anticipatory excitement of waiting for Sarah to take the stage. This time as headliners, and with the additional members, they pretty much blew me away. It's funny, and I never before thought of Mary's voice this way, but I can see how one could get the impression that it is forced somewhat. My friend was more impressed by her than I was, but then again he goes for that type of music more than I do.
