Just having gotten back an hour ago from the CD shop, I picked up Katell Keineg's _O Seasons O Castles_. My personally-set choices were this, Juliana Hatfield's lates, or an Anonymous 4 disc. Obviously, I settled on Katell, after only one quick scan there, at the shop. I've had my first complete listen to it, and I like it. Lots. It didn't strike me as much as Loreena's _the mask and mirror_, but it's good none the less. I especially like the "title" cut, "O Seasons". I do recommend this disc. It is so enjoyable, I think I've written my best code yet! :-) (Actually, due to my protruding proboscis, I think I'll change it to :^)! ) Soothing and relaxing. She has a wonderful voice. Actually, come to think of it, all my purchases this year the women all have beautiful voices. That's pretty good. I realize I should have remembered the name of the Anonymous 4 disc, but did I make the right choice between Katell, Juliana's _Only Everything_ and Anonymous 4? Actuall, I'm pleased, so maybe it doesn't matter. I feel like I'll be forever getting caught up with the music. Finally getting Sarah M's first two, then Loreena's m&m, Mae Moore's _Bohemia_ and now this I feel that I'm years behind. The only "1995" stuff would be Jewel, suddenly, tammy! (which, by the way, I think is all lower case, since it appears that way on both of their releases) and Nan Vernon. I did get a chance, the other night, to track thorough - "quickly" - Joan Osborne's _relish_, and can't wait to get this one. I first heard "Spider's Web", and fell enamoured with her style and her voice. Then I tracked thorough the first 4 songs, and it only got better, although I still really like (out of the 5 songs I heard) "Spider's Web". Great stuff. Didn't she just appear recently, on one of the late night shows? Hmm... I'll have to check Susan's list as soon as I'm through. Ah yes, I also tracked through Laura Love's _Collection_, and also can't wait to get this one. All those who enjoy her have a reason to. Such "different" music! It seems to say some interesting things! So-called "Seth" theory is a vaguely new age package of concepts and assertions that many people consider a somewhat bizarre cult. It seems that the basic claim it makes is that if you believe in something really strongly it'll come true. (ie: self-actualization taken to absurd extremes) It all comes from a woman who's churned out a number of books claiming that she's the reincarnation of various people, including an Egyptian mystic named Seth or something along those lines. I may have specific details as to her reincarnation claims wrong - her writing is very unfocused, confusing and heavily reliant on a self-defined vocabulary. It also requires a strong suspension of disbelief. If I sound a bit grouchy and intolerant about this it's because I've had dealings with more than one starry-eyed "Seth" person before and they tend to be frustratingly naive and self-deluded characters who blindly refuse to acknowledge things happening in the world around them because they *really* want to believe something else. The sort who give CanCon a bad name. ;) I guess with her new album she's decided to take a more grownup stance - the single I've heard that's getting a lot of airplay is very aggressive. She's also added her last name and seems to have been picked up by record companies outside the Canadian ghetto. I find it interesting that it's getting the airplay it is, actually.
