I've been blown away by recent performances. Don't let the name of the band, ignorance of the band, or any other factors keep you from seeing the show. This is probably the only act I can say *everyone* I've sent to see them has enjoyed. They're that good. (I've had friends who were underwhelmed by their recordings, wary because they didn't think they'd like the music I described, put off by the band name, not in the mood to see a show, etc... they all came away terribly impressed.)(and kicked themselves for ever missing anyof their shows. :) ) Whether playing acoustic traditional shows (featuring music from all over the world, and originals)... or rock shows at top venues throughout the world. It's an inspired band. Fiddle, Guitar, Bass, Drums, Vocals... with occasional dulcimer (yes, electric dulcimer can truly rock the house. Honest.), mandolin, and other sundry instruments. Celtic, Middle Eastern, Traditional, Blues, Rock, originals... Energy. Award-winning. Players who excell individually, yet have great chemistry together. Not to be missed. In My Humble Opinion. Thanks for the advance warning... and you were right; he IS pretty bad (for those of you not farmiliar w/ Mr. Sexsmith, he's a mediocore acoustic guitar player with an awful voice and absolutely no soul. Did I mention his lousy sense of humour?) Thought I'd add a few observations about the show... Sarah's new rendition of "Terms" had a bit of a "wild side" to it... although I must admit I kept waiting for a sax solo and being disappointed when it didn't come :) The "Elsewhere" and "Mary" combo were utterly rockin', acoustic or not, and "Ice" was just... well... incredible. I didn't know what to expect from the Chieftains... I had seen them on the House of Blues, but wasn't sure if I'd be able to appreciate their music at all. Being that I expected very little, I was pleasantly surprised. Although I wasn't instantly converted into a Celtic music fan, the Chieftains are technically incredible, and their set was a lot of fun (especially when Sarah joined them, of course!). Even the schoolkids sitting next to me had stopped making fun of them about 15 or 20 minutes into the set. Bottom line: See this show! Really! When Ecto was first created, I think it was a good idea to see top-40 music as anti-Ecto, but this attitude might start to work against us now. Is it not the desire of every Ectophile to see the top-40 filled with Ecto quality music? "Bridge" albums or songs that fit well in the top-40 but also have Ecto quality will be very useful to reach this goal, as they will improve people's taste in music.
