Anybody know? Thanks. LJ made 2 albums : Lone Justice Shelter and Maria made 2 solos : Maria McKee You gotta sin to get saved and she's due to release a new one soon (this summer or this fall, I don't remember). She recently contributed a song for the "pulp fiction" soundtrack. My favorite of the 4 is the first solo because that's on it she makes the best usage of her wonderful voice (Panic beach always sent shivers down my spine). The second one is more country and there are two covers of Van Morrison on it. A great album, too. Her stuff with LJ is more "rock". I prefer the first album to the second, it's more "brute", less "polished", but there are wonderful tracks on both. There are two live CD that I know of. One is official and is a recording made by the BBC during the "shelter" tour and the other is a bootleg of the "sin to get saved" tour. Both are quite hard to find now. I have a couple of live recordings from both the band and her solo tours. If there are enough people interested I can make a tape and send it to the tape dubbing project. - -- Yves. I personally love them both, and think she's got a tremendous voice. I was able to see herwhen she toured in support of "You Gotta Sin to Be Saved", and she's amazing live. Her voice is so powerful, but so effortless. She also has songs on the Days of Thunder soundtrack, the Sweet Relief tribute album to Victoria Williams, and a couple of other compilations, none of which I can remember at the moment. (Van Morrison?) Anyone? Haven't heard if anything new is expected from her. I tend to make a distinction, I guess, between "dream-like" (which I see as fragmented, vague, evocative, and somewhat nonsensical at times) and (here I am trying to think up a word for what WIWAB is like) "mystical / other-worldly / deep", which can be highly emotionally charged, evocative (as well), and imagery-ridden, but having a cohesive feeling to it, a unification, a feeling of touching on universality, and lots of other things which I won't continue to butcher by tring to verbalize :) So, WRT her using " awareness-spectrum substances", I don't really care whether someone does or doesn't, but if they do, they should "handle" it well.... for instance, certain tribes practice rites with certain "substances", and gain effective experiences. I don't think one can rely upon them, and in fact I think myself rely upon "awareness-spectrum substances" too much myself (I drink too much coffee at work)... and try to expand my mind with other methods than, say, LSD, Psilocybin, or peyote. Anyway, enough rambling.... I've been passing around the Happy Rhodes CDs here at work, and people seem to like them (yay). btw, I *adore* collective heart, all of it (although the song tends to get "stuck" in my head....). - -Richard. Imagine that. Interesting -- I found the posts I wrote exactly one year ago while hunting for my To Be Responded To files. In case anyone cares, one year ago this week I saw Tori Amos perform in New Haven and New York, and drove up to Boston to see an all-but-aborted Sarah show at the Hatch Shell, with Milla opening. Gee, is this supposed to be proof that nobody reads my posts, or what? ;> I've been talking about Laura Love around these parts for a long time... she describes her music as "Afro-Celtic Funkabilly", among other things - she has a sometimes sweet, sometimes nasal voice, plays bass, and has an inexhaustible supply of energy on stage. She did indeed grow up in Omaha -- check out the liner notes of the Putomayo World Music release _The Laura Love Collection_ for the gory details. Her father was the jazz musician Preston Love, but I don't think she ever met him. I recommend her music highly. _Pangaea_ is her best so far, imo -- _Helvetica Bold_ just doesn't pack the same punch, though it is a good album. I haven't had a chance to really listen to her first one, _Z Therapy_ as of yet, but I'm sure it's as least as good as her latest if nothing else. Speaking of Maire, I saw the movie, "Circle of friends" recently (didn't like it).
