I love their _Book of Rejection_ (not quite so fond of _Don't Cry _Too_ Hard_). They also have a new one under the name of The Spits now that they're no longer a trio called _Hell's Kitchen_. I just picked it up in Toronto, and it sounds good so far. Quite like _Book of Rejection_. Laura Hubert also sang on the final cut on the _Back To the Garden_ tribute to Joni Mitchell--a wonderful version of "Refuge of the Roads". In other words, her work is worth tracking down! - --Neile neile@u.washington.edu ------------------------------ From: ak1@merle.acns.nwu.edu Date: Fri, 9 Jun 1995 02:55:44 -0500 (CDT) Subject: tape dubbing FAQ Could someone on this list please send me the tape dubbing FAQ? I like Shimmer better than Selena. IMO Selena went overboard on the synth. Yvonne's vocals tend to get lost in it. Now, Selena does have some *excellent* tracks- e.g. Fallen Angel, Blood in the Sun, Indian Song. But I fell in love with those tracks when I heard them live, before they were committed to CD. So even they don't have the full kick for me they might otherwise. Currently, however, my favorite Big Hat album is their last -- _Taqueria del Muerte_. It takes the best of Shimmer and Selena and somehow imbues it all with the energy of Big Hat live. Excellent, excellent disk -- if you can find it (release was limited). M. Has ecto music arrived, or what? :-) The other day the indigo girls newsgroup carried a post from someone who was at an IG/Sarah M. concert, in which she expounds at some length about what a nice person Sarah is (playing hacky sack with the fans, etc.). Dunno if this qualifies as "exciting", but I was cruising the Tower Records listening post last night and sampled something by a singer/songwriter named Jann Arden, who is Canadian and seems to have a very nice voice and style. The album is called "Living Under June" and I think it's a new release. I am really beginning to like the Tower CD listening posts; they seem to be making a real attempt at searching out new artists (or under-exposed ones like Happy) and putting them up for listening, instead of just the artists that big record companies want to turn into pop stars. And on a less ectoish but nonetheless pleasant note, I see that Tangerine Dream has released their *65th* (!!!) album (50 normal albums & 15 soundtracks); it's called "The Tyranny of Beauty" or something like that. - -- Michael mcb@postmodern.com http://www.postmodern.com/ ------------------------------ From: Neile Graham Date: Fri, 9 Jun 1995 17:10:29 -0700 (PDT) Subject: Re: LadySlipper (Re: turkeys) Richard sez: > Here it is, what I have anyway.... > > LadySlipper Catalog, LadySlipper Inc., PO Box 3124-R, Durham, NC > 27715; orders, 1-800-634-6044 (call or write for catalog).
