She's tiny, probably weighing about 90 pounds, and seemed kind of shy and friendly, but once the music started, I swear her eyes roll up in her head and a demon takes over. It was one of the most unnerving concerts I've seen. As for the knife stuff, she would bring out this old dull butcher knife during the song "Second Skin", and while she wailed "I'm wearing a second skin" she would vigorously rub the butcher knife up and down her arms. We're talking pressing hard against the flesh here. In case woj was around and wasn't retching, she then start poking the knife around her eyes, and, when the twin basses kicked in a sudden time change, she practically flung the knife straight into the audience. Probably everyone of us there thought it was pointing straight at us. (I don't know about anyone else. Maybe it was really only pointed at me.) Anyway, me, and everyone near me, flinched in sudden terror, but the knife never left her hand. (wshooh!) At the end of the song, her eyes having rolled back down out of her head, she kindly thanked us and tossed apparently harmless candy into the crowd. And probably the second scariest show I've seen was the Foetus Inc. show that featured Hahn Rowe, Hugo Largo's violin player. Anyone know of any other projects he's been involved in? Hi all, Last night I was listening to the radio just before I fell asleep, and then I heard a song by Joan Armatrading. It sounded vaguely familiar, or rather, clearly recognizable as Joan, a ballad with piano and guitar (at least to my sleepy ears). The discjockey said it was a track off her new album "Mercy of love" (?). Now I used to be a big fan of Joan, and I have most of her early albums (yup - on vinyl! :) ), up until she started to rock too much for me with what was it, "Sleight of hand"? I sort of lost track of her since then... I haven't played her albums for years now, but last week I was visiting a friend to play with Sarah's Multi Media CD on his multi media PC. He didn't know Sarah before that (but he liked what he heard and saw!), and his first impression was "Sinead O'Connor", until he heard the snibbit of 'Icecream', which to my surprise reminded him of Tracy Chapman. (I guess he just has to listen to it some more :) ). So I asked him if he knew Joan Armatrading, and he didn't, so I offered to make him a tape with a selection of her music. And just when I decide to start playing my old Joan albums again I hear she's apparently released a new album. Ectosynchronicity or what? :-) Anyway, does anybody know anything about what she did in the past years since "Sleight of hand", or about this new album? Has she gone back to what she did best (IMHO)? Thanks for any info!
