Ecto is back. I don't have anything relevant to say; I just wanted to express my exaltation that I have found Ecto again. My digests simply stopped arriving sometime during the holidays (OK, that's a broad period; the holiday season spans Halloween to New Years, but you get the gist.) I'd been terribly busy at work, with little time for cruising usenet for any stray mentions. And lo! last week I had a let up and started trying to relocate Ecto, and I found a post from our dear Vickie about a change of address on alt.music.alternative.female. Phew. After a few resubscription glitches, I'm getting Ecto again. To reiterate: Oh, joy! Maybe AOR stations, sure, but "Hold Me" is the killer pop track with the killer hook and the ear-opening rhythm. That's the track on the album (with, to a lesser extent, Collective Heart) that seemed to me the most likely to get radio attention. Nothing against "Glory", by the way - I love it - just that it's much more an "album track", in a similar way to how "The Theatre" by Pet Shop Boys was a phenomenal song that nevertheless eblonged as an album track on "Very" and not out on its own as a single. > No word about any availabilty to ectophiles. Yes, Prism is coming! This Friday, the 3rd, Prism Music Magazine will feature Helen Leicht's video interview with Happy and some acoustic Hapmusique! Needless to say, tape must roll! Now this brings to mind a need, of sorts. Many of you out there will be wanting copies. As a video professional, I have access to a pro dub system, so I will soon be putting out a call for tapes as soon as I make sure it's OK with the Management (Happy's, not mine!). Should Susanne approve the wholesale duplication of tapes for Ectophiles, I'll post my address and some guidelines. If SW has her own distribution plans, I'll respect her wishes, as this is Happy's livelihood and I don't wish to bootleg. Still, I very much tend to think it'll be OK. Just want to be sure. Watch this space for details! The actual concert will be aired March 10. Ectophiles near the area (Jersey 'burbs of Philly) who do not get Prism and who would like to watch the concert with us (a great way to check out our new stereo!), please let me know if you're interested! It's a Friday night, so it should be OK. I must check with Wanda, but I'd bet it would be OK. Let me know! Say, bring your own VCRs and cables and we'll daisy chain! We'll see what transpires; I thought I'd run this up the flagpole and see if anyone salutes! So that's the plan for now - a viewing party here, and a video tape dubbing service - Grid Willing! I noticed that this is a list that allows conversation regarding many different artists, which is why I thought this would be a good place to ask this question: "Why do you like Liz Phair?" I bought her first CD (Exile In Guyville) because I was curious what all the hoopla was about. I believe Rolling Stone named it Album Of The Year, and it seemed like everyone in the music press had great things to say about the album and Liz Phair. Personally, I can't stand it. I'm not putting Liz down, or anything, and I'm certainly not criticizing her fans, so please don't misunderstand the meaning of my message. I'm just curious about what the attraction is to her music for those of you who enjoy it. Maybe I can gain a different perspective, and approach her music in a different way. I'm always interested in finding out about new and different music. If it wasn't for this curiosity, I'd have never heard Tori Amos and Sarah McLaghlan (two of my current favorites). I thought that maybe Liz Phair would be another 'discovery', but all I discovered was that I don't like her voice, songwriting, music, etc. Again, this is not meant to put down Liz Phair or her fans, so please don't misunderstand me. I'm just curious as to what people like about her and her music. If this digest is inappropriate for this discussion (remember, I'm kinda new around here), please email me directly. I'd very much like to discuss this. Thanks very much, and take care! Outta here, #--- John J. Too late for that. :-) This is a *FREE-FORM* post-whatever-you-feel-like-posting mailing list. I can't sit by and watch people I care about (even if I've never met them or even had any interactions with them) shot down by snide comments. We haven't had to deal with this kind of thing for at least a couple of years, and only a few times in the nearly 5-year history of Ecto. Everybody's welcome here, Happy fan or not, lurker or poster. But if you're going to be here (*Brittni*) then you'll have to put up with what comes through here. I simply will not accept this quietly. This kind of thing could turn into the kind of net.junk that David Dalton and John Shepard had to go through in FTE. I *invited* David and John to join Ecto, telling them that they wouldn't have to go through what they went through on FTE. If Brittni treats Jeffy, Kate and Fili like this, who's next? David? Mitch? Me? Me I don't care about, though I'd prefer e-mail if people have a problem with me, but I *do* care about everyone else. If even one person is discouraged from posting because of an attitude like Brittni's, then that's one person too many. Brittni is *very* welcome here. Brittni's snide asides to Ectophiles' postings are not. Just in case anyone doubts the purpose of this list, I refer you to the Welcome message and the FAQ entry: - ---- Hi, Welcome to Ecto! The mailing list was an immediate success, and continues to grow. Ecto is a very active mailing list, with around 400 subscribers, and those who join should be aware that it can be a busy list. It's very free-form and *many* topics of interest to Ectophiles are discussed. Subscribers talk about other artists besides Happy (female artists mainly, but recommendations of male artists are fine) with an emphasis on what Ectophiles call "ecto-music" encompassing such diverse artists/groups as Kate Bush, Tori Amos, Sarah McLachlan, Jane Siberry, Milla, Bel Canto, and many, *many* others. Non-musical topics seen in Ecto range from movies to books to politics and just about everything in between. Discussions are friendly and flame-free, and the term "agree to disagree" is used often. FRIENDLY WARNING: Ecto contains frequent amiable posts from a group of friends (into which newcomers are *very* welcome), hanging out, chatting about everything under the sun, and not letting themselves get fettered by other list's mandates or inconsiderate flaming.
