I spent this weekend campingh and white water rafting down the ocoee river in tennessee with about 10 of my closest and dearest friends. And lo and behold, one of the people there was from canada and loved sarah's music. So around the campfire that night we toasted marshmellows and introduced everyone to sarah's beautiful voice. her music was even more magical under the stars, with a warm fire, and amongst a group of close friends. then, once we were all relaxed, i pulled out a tori concert, and we all sat there amazed at the sheer beauty of it all. it's so rare for people to have even heard of most of the artists/groups that i listen to, that when i find someone else who is a fan, i get extremely excited. ==> a very relaxed valerie gaffa@mind.org -- mind.org 404/659-5720 Public Access Usenet in Atlanta ======================================================================== Date: 27 Sep 93 10:11:44 EDT From: Mike Mendelson Subject: Two Faces Two Eyes I don't think this ever made it to ecto. Apologies if it did. ----- Well, I'm sure we've gone over this before, but I have recently been fixated on the Rainbirds' Two Faces (1990). Not only is the music brilliant and haunting, but the lyrics are thoughtful and rich in poignant allegory and metaphor. *So* good. Now I admittedly am not mr.decipherman when it comes to decrypting tricky lyrics. So I pose this question: Jeff Burka have you heard this album? Make it a priority if you haven't. So what exactly is the deal with this group and, say, Bobo, and any other group in a foreign (esp. Eur.) country writing and singing songs in English. Are the members of these groups German natives? How do they know English and why use it to write songs in, esp. if they're music is not available in US? Or Canada. Is it available in UK/Aust/NZ? What is their audience? Is there that large an English-speaking population in Germany itself? Or, are they originally from some other, English-speaking country? Two Faces is the best thing I've heard since the Dreaming. Period. Now, Kate Bush ought to take CD5-making lessons from Sarah M. Possession, the album-version, is such a great song, that when it ends you say "that's it? finished already?"; but have no fear, because the next song is Possession as well, except it's *really* rockin' and raucus this time, *and* it lasts even longer. I've never listened to a CD5 where the remix isn't just a little redundant in context, until now. The Jane mix of the 3rd song on the CD5 is named after one of the musicians named Jane. It is a great song as well, if a little melancholy (as SM has a tendency to be). But man, Possession is awesome. It puts me in the same mood as Head Over Heals by the Rbirds. So, does anyone know if Ha! Ha! Houdini's Laughing is in some way related to you-know-what? I'll shutup now. -mjminaweonceagainandflatteredthatwojreallydidmeantousemynyminasubjectline ======================================================================== The ecto archives are on hardees.rutgers.edu in ~ftp/pub/hr.
