Hello ecto and Tim, Tim, in searching for a way to the Internet, I would recommend the service I use, SAI. They give you unlimited email access for $7.00 a month, less if you go for a quarter, half, or full year. While I am currently having a small problem which may or may not be their fault, they are very helpful and will/are doing all they can to correct it. You can reach them by writing to Shecora Associates, Inc., Box 61, Brookline, NH 03033-0061, or call them at (603)672-0736. They will send you software. Additional cost will be the phone charge to New Hampshire, but it's relatively inexpensive - my calls average 17 cents each, and it works out to less because I use a "Reach Out" telephone service. Files are compressed through the phones to save time. Works great, usually. Steve, also in England, asks about Jeopardy. I'm currently on the digest so this may be a little late, but Jeopardy is an American Quiz Program(me). It's sort of the opposite of a quiz, in that the host reads an answer from the board and you provide the question! The board features six categories each game, left to right. At the top are the "cheaper" easier questions, and as you go down a column (or category), the answers are worth more and are more difficult. Whoever comes up with the last correct question gets to pick the category and value of the next answer. "Alex, I'll take tachyons for $200." "OK - the answer is, General Foods!" (Sound of Dave ringing buzzer) "Dave?" "What company invented tachyons?" "Correct. You have control of the board." and so on. Somehow the show manages to be a little more interesting than I've described it. It's kind of fun, actually. My kids think I should go on! (The fools!) Finally, I spoke with Susanne White today. I passed along Angelos' contact in Athens, and discovered there has been a small delay in shipping to retail outlets. RhodeSongs should be in the stores next week! Take care all! I only knew some of her early songs from Klaus' compilation tape, but they didn't really work for me. So I was impressed to listen to this compilation. I prefer most of the older songs to the Warpaint and =P stuff. The songs are really athmospheric and melancholic. There are only three songs that I don't like that much: The Revelation, Because I Learn (toy keyboard sounds), In Hiding (too boring, I prefer the Warpaint version). All in all: a wonderful compilation for the coming long autumn and winter evenings. Ah, yes, Summer is amazing, wonderful choirs, reminds me of Tori's The Pool. Well, Agassi and Capriati both lost in the 1st round! Last night they were interviewed briefly following theirs losses. What a horror! I can't imagine why they agree to these interviews. Both of them were nearly in tears (esp. Capriati who's just 17). The female commentator (I forget her name but she's an ex-player and a super host for the show, IMO) said how horrible it must be to face reporters like that and explain "why" they lost. Ugh!! And while I'm on the subject, let me add my enthusiastic applause for Letterman. I don't think I'll ever watch Leno again. Dave may be a little harsh or nervous with some guests, but he's much funnier and more spontaneous and FUN and interesting to watch than Leno. I now think more than ever that NBC main el grande mistako by choosing Jay over Dave. But we'll see. Also, the Late Show band (which I've always liked) is great because they play all manner of funny stuff spontaneously thru the whole show (vs. Branford who is so uptight and out of place and uncomfortable) making it a very musical hour. |David Dixon says: |> (which I won't name for diplomatic reasons), but there are several songs |> that are *fantastic* (namely "Unselfish" by Hewitt Huntwork, "Ever the |> Wind" by Bobo i.w.w.h., "Seinn O" by Mouth Music, and a few others). | |I was really glad to see this comment. Hewitt reminded me of John Gorka, another singer/songwriter/introspective type who now has 4 (count'em) CDs out, all recommended. He tends to be a bit melancholy much of the time, but that's his style (and there are many uplifting songs in there if you look hard enough). I know Shawn Colvin has done harmonies and some vocal arrangements on a few of his disks. He too is even better live, but the disks are quality. David Wilcox also springs to mind (though I've never seen him live). His best CD is an "official bootleg" that does capture him live. That is 25 minutes of great music (perhaps a future HBP contribution there) that Tower gave away for free a couple of years ago. His two CDs are more subdued.
